Hello LAC Families, at the recent US Open championships in Irvine, Abby Herscu and Brandon Fischer had some fantastic performances. Due to Covid, the US Open, which normally takes place at one location, was split up into 9 different venues across the USA. Additionally, athletes did not get to swim trials and finals but had one shot only at each race. Abby and Brandon made the most of their opportunities.
Brandon won the Irvine site and was 14th nationally in the 100 breast. Brandon also won the 200 breast at the Irvine site and was 3rd nationally. (For this he won $500 from USA Swimming.) Brandon's 3rd place finish marks his highest ever finish in a National competiion. Way to go Brandon!
Abby was 4th at the Irvine site and 18th Nationally in the 100 breast. She dropped over 1 second and qualfied for a new US Olympic Trial time. Abby was 2nd at the Irvine site and 18th Nationally in the 200 breast, also garnering a best time and an Olympic Trial time standard (she had already qualfieid for this event).
We are proud of both Abby and Brandon and are looking forward to seeing how many new qualifiers we can get this season. We have some dedicated young swimmers on our team who are getting very close to these national level meets. It will be awesome to see what they can achieve.
