Fellow Members of Michigan Swimming,
As you are aware, on November 15, 2020 the Michigan Department of
Health and Human Services ("MDHHS") issued an epidemic order
Michigan Swimming, Inc. consulted with its outside legal counsel to
determine the impact this order will have on its operations as an
LSC. Michigan Swimming, Inc. also considered its broader
obligations as a responsible coroporate citizen in these times of
immense societal need.
After careful and thoughtful consideration, Michigan Swimming, Inc.
revoked all sanctions and approvals granted for any and all
competitions within its jurisdiction scheduled to take place
between November 18, 2020 and December 8, 2020,
Further, Michigan Swimming, Inc. is temporarily suspending granting
any new sanctions or approvals for competitions to take place at
any date pending a thorough review of its current COVID sanctioning
policy by the Michigan Swimming, Inc. Board of Directors. As soon
as this review is completed and a new COVID sanctioning policy is
implemented, the foregoing process suspension will be lifted.
The above decisions were not made lightly. It pains each and every
one of us when we have to make decisions that impact the ability of
our sport to operate normally. But, right now, our broader Michigan
community needs us to do this to protect our healthcare systems,
the front-line workers, and, most importantly, each other.
I have been incredibly proud and moved by how well our community
has stepped up and demonstrated its commitment to operating in a
safe, responsible manner. Now, more than ever, we must continue to
do our part and hold each other accountable. One day, we will
return to a sense of normalcy. When we do, I am confident that our
community and sport will be stronger than ever.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available, and I
thank you for your continued patience and support as we navigate
these very complicated times.
Chairman of the Board of Directors
Michigan Swimming, Inc.
