Michigan Swimming, Inc. COVID-19 Update: Revised Sanction & Approval Process
December 9, 2020 |
Fellow members of Michigan Swimming,
I write today in hopes that you and your families are staying well
and healthy.
At its November meeting, the Michigan Swimming, Inc. Board of
Directors took several actions with respect to sanctions and
approvals. Those actions are outlined below for your
reference.
Sanction, Approval, Observation
Moratorium
The Board of Directors has placed a moratorium on all sanctioned,
approved, and observed competition from November 18, 2020 through
December 8, 2020, inclusive.
This moratorium may be extended at Michigan Swimming, Inc.'s
discretion to comply with any new or existing federal, state, or
local laws, orders, guidelines, or other instruments carrying the
weight of law. Any such extension will be communicated as soon as
possible.
Revised Sanction
Policy
The Board of Directors revised the Michigan Swimming, Inc. COVID
sanction & approval policy, updating it to version
COVID-004.
Key changes are outlined below:
- Relaxed (not eliminated) the requirement to pre-seed and not accept deck entries. Please see page 6 of the current policy for additional details.
- Added a requirement that an agent of the host club hand-sign a COVID-19-related waiver and indemnification agreement as condition of receiving a sanction or approval. A template from Michigan Swimming, Inc. is available below, but a host club may propose its own version of the agreement so long as it complies with the requirements set forth in Michigan Swimming, Inc. Policy COVID-004. See page 5 of the current policy for additional details.
The relevant documents have been updated to reflect the above
changes and are available below:

Clubs wishing to apply for a sanctioned, approved, or observed
competition to take place on or after December 9, 2020 must comply
with Michigan Swimming, Inc. Policy COVID-004. So long as clubs
comply with the aforementioned policy and all other existing
Michigan Swimming, Inc. Rules & Procedures and policies, any
such requests may be submitted to the Michigan Swimming Office for
processing during the period of the current competition
moratorium.
Conclusion
Michigan Swimming, Inc. will continue monitoring the ongoing
COVID-19 pandemic and make updates to its operations as necessary.

safety of its members, the aquatics community, and the broader
