This year has been a challenging one for sure! We are grateful that we have been able to continue to offer training opportunities with some limited competitions up to this point. We want to thank you for your patience in adjusting from the “old normal” routine into our “new normal” routine to safely accommodate a new practice structure with masks and distancing.
We are looking forward to 2021 and continuing to provide consistent training for all the swimmers in the program. Yes, we are still in the middle of the pandemic, but we feel there is light starting to peak through at the end of the tunnel. We are pleased with how we have navigated things up to this point and believe we can continue to safely hold practices and meets in 2021!
The last 8 months have provided challenges for many organizations like MSA. As you probably know, the minimum wage is set to increase again on January 1, 2021. In 2018, Missouri voters passed Proposition B: $12 Minimum Wage Initiative. This law went into effect on January 1, 2019 and raised the minimum wage from $7.85 to $8.60 – with a plan of increasing $0.85 each year until the rate reaches $12 in 2023.
- 2018 Minimum Wage = $7.85
- 2019 Minimum Wage = $8.60
- 2020 Minimum Wage = $9.45
- 2021 Minimum Wage = $10.30
- 2022 Minimum Wage = $11.15
- 2023 Minimum Wage = $12.00
Several comparable sport programs increased their dues and fees in January 2020 to help offset these current and upcoming minimum wage increases. We absorbed these costs, while still adding coaches to the pool deck to support our athletes and continue to keep a good coach-to-swimmer ratio.
While we made no dues changes in January 2020 our original plan was to raise dues slightly in August 2020 to help offset these increases, however, we halted these plans when Covid hit back in March. With the next minimum wage increase going into effect on January 1, 2021, we simply cannot afford to provide the same level of coaching at our current rates. To ease families into the upcoming monthly dues increase, the increase will be made in two phases starting in January 2021.
- On January 1st our monthly dues will increase $5 per group
- On March 1st our monthly dues will increase an additional $5 per group
- 2021 Total Dues Increase = $10
Our last monthly dues increase was in 2015. We recognize what a commitment (both in time and financial) the sport of swimming is for families and we appreciate your continued support of MSA. Our commitment remains to provide high level coaching and experiences for our swimmers and families!
