A Message from Coach Todd

A MESAGE FROM COACH TODD

Greetings Wahoo Swimmers and Families,

As we move into the New Year, there are a lot of developments in our program.  I’m sure there are many questions you may have on what the near future looks like in terms of training and competition.

This message is intended to bring you all up to speed on where we are, and where we are going during the current and ever changing climate we know as COVID19.

I want to reassure you that the safety of you and your swimmer(s) and the Wilton community is paramount, as well as providing an environment for the maximum possible competitive swimming team experience to occur.

The Wahoo staff has submitted for approval a full and detailed practice schedule and plan for all of our swimmers to move forward now that the “pause” on youth sports has come to an end. Naturally, our plan needs to comply with all health guidelines set forth by the State of Connecticut, YMCA, USA Swimming and the Town of Wilton Board of Health.

This practice schedule will allow for all groups to expand the time they spend in the water, the number of practices they attend per week and head in the right direction coming out of the limitations we have been under for the last several weeks. The practice plan will adhere to all guidelines as set forth by the Sate of Connecticut and The Wilton Board of Health.

Our anticipation of moving forward with the unveiling of this practice schedule, which will include some division of larger squads groups, would have eliminated the weekly practice slot sign ups.  All of this is GREAT news for the Wahoos!

Unfortunately, with the recent chain of events within the Wilton High School community regarding the uptick in COVID19 cases and the return to 100% virtual learning, coupled with the delay on the start of all winter high school sports for Wilton until February 3rd, we will not be able to put our plan for practices next week.

Thus we will continue to offer training, as it currently exists, which includes virtual dry land sessions and weekly practice slot signups. We look forward to making the positive change in our practice structure as soon as we have approval, hopefully February 3rd.  If any further updates occur you will be informed in a timely fashion. Thank you for all your understanding and support.

All my best,

Todd Stevens
