Update on Neptune Swimming over the next few months

Dear Neptune Families,

Hope you all are doing well and finding some hope in the Covid vaccinations, discussions of schools re-opening and life getting back to “normal”.  We are fortunate for the little bit of swimming we’ve been able to provide to some of our members, as it’s helped with the physical and mental well being of our athletes, coaches and families because as we all know, with the fires and the pandemic, this has been a brutally tough year

Since June of 2020, we’ve been operating exclusively out of Ridgway swim center and limited to 18 athletes at a time.  We’ve been swimming 2 kids per lane & starting at opposite ends of the pool.  We are so proud of the maturity and professionalism that our team has shown over the last 7 months, it’s been exceptional.  Due to our ability to maintain social distancing and conduct ourselves in a safe manner, the City of Santa Rosa has approved our plan to start training with 4 kids in each lane.  We are excited and ready for this progression.

Starting in mid-March and lasting until mid-May, most local high schools will provide the opportunity for high school aged kids to participate in a modified high school swim season.   We are supportive of this plan to provide more swimming opportunities to more people.   The downside to this proposed high school swim season is we lose 12.5 hours of pool time per week to accommodate the high school teams.

The Santa Rosa Junior College campus has been closed to students and outside user groups (Neptune Swimming) since March of 2020 and will remain closed until the end of July 2021.  We are hopeful in August to gain access to both pools at the JC.

The end result of these actions of more kids per lane, less pool time at Ridgway and no access to the JC pools, equates to Neptune Swimming not adding more groups to the practice schedule at this time.

As things progress over the next few months and we analyze the effects of 4 kids per lane, we might be able to start incorporating more groups into the Ridgway swim schedule once summer is here and we have a better understanding of the pool schedule along with what city programs are being offered.

A real positive note about the future of swimming in Sonoma County;  Santa Rosa Junior College will officially break ground on April 1, 2021 on the “NEW” 50 meter pool!.  We’ve been in meetings for months working on how to raise the necessary funds to outfit the pool with a state of the art timing system, sound system & racing equipment.   This facility should be completed in the next 2 years.  SO EXCITING!!!

Thank you all for your continued support of Neptune Swimming!
