Weekly Update 2/22

Hello EMAC Families,

This weeks update will be longer than normal due to additional information needing to be shared with the team. Before we get into the breakdown of the week, we want to discuss swim suits. The coaching staff is beginning to notice the structural breakdown in suits. Most of this is caused by regular wear and tear, mixed in with the occasional suit neglect seen in age group swimmers. A regular practice suit worn each day should be replaced at least once a year. Take a moment one of these upcoming days and ask your swimmer to put on their practice suit at home. If the suit is starting to fray, string or string attachment ripped, not snug against the body, stretched, or showing signs of the fabric thinning: please look into replacing your swimmers suit as soon as possible. One way to help increase the longevity of your swimmers suits: after practice, rinse the suit in cold water and hang it up to air dry; do not wring it out.

We are also seeing a rise in goggle strap failure. Swimmers should have a backup pair of goggles in their bags in case of emergencies. Bungie cords are also popular as they do not break and are easy for the swimmers to adjust.

MEET INFO

We have a meet on March 20th and 21st! This meet is closed as a dual meet between EMAC and PSC. If your swimmer wishes to attend the meet, please register on the site as soon as possible. Coaches will finalize entries with each swimmer throughout the next few weeks. Additional information regarding the meet:

  • All athletes 13 and over will be allowed to SUIT UP. If your swimmer wishes to get a technical suit, please order one ASAP. Jesse Way at D&J Sports is aware of an upcoming tech suit order and has informed us he can guarentee suit delivery before the meet if it is ordered before March 7th. If you know your size, feel free to call D&J at 610-282-5895. They are also willing to do suit fittings.
  • Hotels - Our friends at PSC have booked a hotel block which we are able to join in on. I've attached communication from them HERE

RACE DAY REVIEW

  • Our 8 and Unders had this week of racing off
  • 9-10s competed in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, as well as the 100 IM. We saw a lot of growth in our kicking and wall discipline across all the groups, which evolved into faster times in 1 or 2 events for our swimmers. Their results can be seen HERE
  • 11-12s competed in a 200 of their choice. Options available were the 200 Fly, Back, Breast, or Freestyle. After warming up, our swimmers got to swim their favorite 200 and race it without the fear of being tired for a race immediately afterwards. What we got was a sea of best times from our 11-12 group! Their results can be seen HERE
  • 13-14s did not compete in races this week. Instead they began their transition to speed training and enhanced focus on events they wish to compete in at the meet in March. They got to choose a stroke in which they are looking to see themselves excel in at the Dual Meet and worked on completing our "Gauntlet Set", designed to challenge our swimmers to the physical and mental aspects of controlling their results.

UPCOMING WEEK

  • 8 and unders will continue with the training Coach Jason has in place. They will start to see additional meet day focus work as we get closer to the end of March
  • 9-10's will continue with their training, overseen by Coach Phil. They will continue their weekly races, transitioning into more individual focus races as we get closer to the end of March.
  • 11-12s are going to start seeing more race specific focuses at practice. Weekly Races are put on hold until after the meet.
  • 13-14s already began the transition into race specifc focuses. Practices will be more geared towards power and speed instead of technical endurance. Weekly Races are put on hold until after the meet.

ROSTERING

We will be rerostering the groups due to age-ups for the month of April. Swimmers who will be transitioning from one Age Group to the next will have a Zoom Meeting scheduled in the near future. We will also be looking at having a parent meeting with the entire age group via Zoom to address the challenges and concerns involving group changes while still handling COVID as safetly as we can. Please be on the lookout for emails over the next couple weeks with the schedules to these Zoom calls.

If you have any individualized questions until then, please contact Coach Seth.

See you at the pool!
