Maddie Smutny Leads Us into March Madness!

The Month of March is known for Basketball's March Madness, but the sport of swimming also has a March Madness! It's 5 weekends Championship Swimming Competitions.

We, the South Florida Aquatic Club (SoFlo), started March Madness off last weekend at the Plantation Piranahs Long Course Invite! The meet was held Thursday, March 4th through Sunday, March 7th at the Plantation Central Park Aquatic Center in Broward County. SoFlo WON the womens, mens and combined team Championships! Our AKS members of SoFlo raced to 55% personal best times. At the meet on Sunday evening, Maddie Smutny (age 15), one of our Great White SHARKS, achieved her first ever USA Swimming Olympic Trial Qualifying Time in the 200 meter Butterfly!!! A Story and full recap can be found on SoFlo BLOG page HERE!

Next up is this weekend's 14 and Under Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympics. It starts tonight with the Mile and 400 IM and runs through Sunday, March 14th at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

Then we (SoFlo) host the Florida Gold Coast 15 and Over Senior Championships at our Pemboke Pines facility on March 18th-21st!

After that, 14 and Under swimmers that place in the top 6 of their individual event(s) qualify for the Annual Florida vs Florida Gold Coast All-Star Competition at Indian River State College on the weekend of March 27th and 28th!

To Finish off March Madness, a select group of 14 and under swimmers will travel to St Petersburg for ISCA Elite Age Group Showcase. The competiton is March 30th-April 3rd!

We're looking forward more great swimming throughout the month and resuming a "semi-normal" swimming competiton schedule!
