Congratulations to the 105 CAST swimmers who participated in our home meet this past weekend! The energy, enthusiasm, and performances were amazing to watch. A huge thanks to all the parent volunteers who made the meet possible-I know the athletes were ecstatic to be racing again against the clock and you all make that possible.
Leading off the highlights was Lance Mielke’s team record in the 200 breaststroke-an electric 5 second drop that qualified him for the Futures Championships this summer and absolutely brought the house down. Lance also moved up the top times list in the 100 breast and posted best times in all 5 of his races. The other swimmer that has to be highlighted is Riley Taylor, who garnered her first top-10 performer times with huge drops in her 400 IM and 200 fly among her 6 best times. There were scores of other great swims as well, and as a whole the coaches were thrilled with the performances of our athletes!
There were some bittersweet moments too; for 4 of our graduating seniors, this is most likely their last competition. We will have a proper goodbye for all our graduates at the team banquet in May, but watching probably the last race for Wayne Cardwell, Mason Fox, Jarron Kremin, and Abbey Whiting was certainly an emotional moment. Although this year has not gone according to plan, especially for our seniors, these four came with great attitudes and can leave behind a legacy of hard work, plenty of achievements, and great sportsmanship. Thank you all for being a part of the CAST family!
On the other end of the spectrum, this was the very first club meet for quite a few of our swimmers. Great job to Jonas Malone, Owen Sharp, Ethan Abbott, Camden Cotant, Emma Crownheart, Dawson Cushman, Lexi Jennings, Ella Mohr, Michael Olsen, Amanda Olson, Lorelai Renner, Karsten Towery, Mary Brown, Tudor Cocis, Casey Dolan, Payton Goodwin, Sam Harrell, Marissa Higbee, Logan Irons, Oliver Lavy, Finn Malone, John Misner, Laura Mohr, Libby Montgomery, Ryder Nicholson, Brody Saint, Liberty Saint, Addison Wallace, Hagan Weiss, and Lincoln Wood on completing their first official competition!
We are looking forward to more swim meets after spring break, and are hopeful to have a more or less “normal” summer season full of Long Course competitions!
