SOBA Places First at 2017 SCAA Summer Championship-Congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS on a fantastic Summer Championship Meet on Saturday!

SOBA earned the most points at Sunday’s Summer Championship Meet, coming in first in our division and winning the entire meet. We were so thrilled to share that big trophy with everyone.

EVERY swimmer who participated Saturday scored points for the team – this was truly a TEAM EFFORT!
72% of you had at least one personal best time at Summer Champs – WOW!!
    27% had one best time
35% had two best times, and
20% had best time in ALL THREE EVENTS – that is FANTASTIC – so proud of you, swimmers!

Most Time Dropped – Gabby Gordon  30.98 total
She gets to take the trophy home for the entire summer break. Way to go Gabby! Close runners-up are Kylie with a total drop of 24.77; Avery with 23.56; Mario with 22.33; Carson with 14.91; Kai with 14.03; Ansel with 13.13; Maison with 12.22; Shreya with 11.28

High point earner
Two-Way Tie: Stefan Lazarevic & Adam Varga Each with 134 Points
Each of these teammates placed and earned points in their individual events (Gold division) AND they both were part of the Medley and Free relays which placed 1st and 2nd place, respectively. Congratulations Stefan and Adam! Each of you gets to take the trophy home one night this week. Close runners-up are: Danny Gonzales and Lauren Chiu, each with 131 points; William Blois with 126 points; Michael Maffucci and Jude Robinson with 123 points each; Colin Glenn and Marissa Gullickson with 122 points each

The Big Trophy
After our ‘most time dropped’ achievers and our high point earners have had their time with the trophy, each swimmer will have the opportunity to take it home for a few days at a time. We’ll go in order of most time dropped (i.e. ‘best’ of the personal best times)

New Team Records
We had 1 new team record set at the 2017 Summer Champs meet. Congratulations to:

New Red/Blue/JO Club Members
The Red, Blue and JO Club represent the different ‘Time Standards’ by age groups outlined by Southern California Swimming. These represent the ‘top’ level of swimming in our region, with the Winter Junior Olympic (JO) being the toughest category, followed by Summer JO, then Blue Times, then Red. Coach Dede has created recognition stars for each level, and she tracks the progress (thank you Coach Dede!). Congratulations to NEW members of…
-The Red Club: NEW Aidan James (13)  Br,  Max Janicek (11)  Br, Carson Vogt (6)  Bk / Moving UP with additional red times: Thomas Beucler  IM, Allison Camfield  Fly, Kai Lyou  Br, Malia Lyou  IM

Relays at Champs
We don’t get to do relays often, so it’s really special when we have so many relay teams at champs meets! This year, we had a relay entered in every gender and age group. Relays are important to the team, because they earn DOUBLE points. Medals are awarded for teams who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd BUT points are awarded to all teams who place 1st thru 6th. Relays are a unique group experience for swimmers. The league only allows us to enter one relay team per event; given that we have so many awesome swimmers, it is a challenge to create those teams. We would love it if everyone got to swim on at least one relay; but in some cases, we just have way more swimmers than spots on relay teams. In creating the relay teams, coaches take into account not only the swimmers’ best times, but also workout participation, attitude and work ethic at regular practice. We tried to offer relay spots to as many swimmers as possible, keeping those guidelines in mind.

Congratulations on Promotions!
