Six DCST High School Boy Swimmers Qualify for IHSA State Championships
Fourteen DCST swimmers represented their high schools last month at the IHSA Sectional meets, and six of these swimmers qualified for the IHSA State Championships. Listed below is a summary of their performances. Numerous articles from newspapers about DCST’s swimmers are listed on DCST’s web page under the section “DCST News.”
DeKalb / Sycamore Co-op(Marc Dubrick, Michael Gordon, Kei Ishimaru, Ryan Lindsey, Matt Marchewka, Cory Page, Josh Page, Ryan Schultz, Drew Seneczko, and Sam Seneczko) – The DeKalb / Sycamore Co-op finished 4th at the St. Charles sectional meet. Kei Ishimaru, Michael Gordon, Sam Seneczko and Cory Page qualified for the IHSA State meet in both the 200 yard Medley and 200 yard Freestyle relays. In individual events, Gordon qualified in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM; and Ishimaru qualified in the 100 yard butterfly and 200 IM. At the State Finals, Gordon placed 6th in the 100 Breaststroke earning HS All-American honors.
Maple Park - Kaneland(Grant Alef, Phillip Cutsinger and Shane Fergus) – Kaneland does not have an official high school team, so Alef, Cutsinger and Fergus have been training with DCST this season. Grant qualified for the IHSA state meet in both of his individual events (500 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke). Phillip had personal best times in both of his events (50 yard free and 500 yard freestyle), while Fergus swam well after being diagnosed with pneumonia the week prior to the meet. At the State Finals, Alef placed 5th in the 100 Backstroke earning HS All-American honors.
Hampshire(Josh DeDina) – Just like Kaneland, Hampshire does not have an official high school team, and Josh has been training with DCST this year. Josh had an excellent meet with lifetime best times in both of his individual events (200 yard IM and 100 yard breaststroke). Josh qualified for the HS State meet in the 100 yard Breaststroke.
