On Saturday, March 12, 2011, the Marin Pirates Swim Team held it’s 2nd annual Swim-A-Thon® at the College of Marin, Indian Valley Campus pool. 85 swimmers participated in the fundraiser, raising $13,300 for the Marin Pirate Foundation, a non-profit whose sole purpose is to benefit the swimmers of the Marin Pirates.
All participants had two hours to complete a maximum of 200 lengths of the IVC pool. Swimmers were able to accept either a “per lap” or flat fee pledges. The team’s top fundraiser was eleven-year-old Lauren McNevin, raising $1,265.00. Other top fundraisers included Alexis Lee, 16 ($600 raised), Thomas Mercurio ($530 raised), 16, and Griffin Burke, 13 ($645 raised).
Each year nearly 2,600 member clubs of USA Swimming conduct a Swim-A-Thon®. The Marin Pirate Foundation will retain 95% of the profits made from this event and send 5% to USA Swimming.
The Pirates look to hold their third annual Swim-A-Thon in the spring of 2012. For information on how you support the event, or become a corporate sponsor, contact Jill Ruppenstein at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 415.310.0678.
