2012 LAC Partners & Links
Weekly Update

Greetings Aquacowboys, what an awesome week we’ve had for our team with some huge breakthroughs in the pool which will open doors for the future leaders of LAC.  We also have some upcoming events, one of which is very important:  Our Team Banquet, and New Board Elections.

Here is a quote for the week:

“Only as high as I reach can I grow,

Only as far as I seek can I go,

Only as deep as I look can I see,

Only as much as I dream can I be.”  -Karen Ravin

We have now finished our short course season and this week is an opportune time to assess our progress so far, and to formulate some new dreams for the long course season and for next year.

Here is an important announcement from our Board Treasurer Tina Rocha:

Fundraising Invoices will be mailed out 5/31.

Here is some information about our LAC Fundraising fees:

Our LAC Fundraising fees help to pay for our A Time T-shirts, Polar Bear T-shirts, JO & Far Western Caps, Swimmer of the Month Caps, Championship Series T-shirts, Team Banquet Awards, Hotel and Travel for Coaches to away meets, Educational Coaches Clinics, Tempo Trainers, Bands, and Technical Devices which aid our team in having excellent stroke technique.

Here is a list of some of the things we’ve purchased recently which you will see being used on deck at practice and meets:

HD video camera (filming practice and meets)

32 inch monitor (watching film at practice)

Tivo system (instant playback loop)

Wireless video transmitter (run video without cords on deck)

Ipad 2 (download video at meets, make notes, record splits)

Our plan for this summer and next season is to begin filming each group at least once a month in order for our swimmers to gain a visual understanding of what they are doing in the water and how they can improve.  We will use the ipad at meets for swimmers to watch certain races and also for them to see clips of world class swimmers performing the same skills. Thank you parents for your work in fundraising, which helps our team use leading edge technology for maximizing our potential.

Here are some highlights from the past week of swim meets:

Evan Carlo, Andrew Hayes and Nina Hayes all earned All-American Automatic or All-American consideration times at the recent NCS championships in Concord.  Evan earned Automatic All-American in the 100 back and Consideration all American in the 100 fly.  Andrew earned All American Consideration in the 100 back and 200 IM, and Nina earned All American Consideration in the 100 back and 200 IM.

Here are some important upcoming events:

Pleasanton Sr Meet (people with Sr time standards only):  June 4-5 a great opportunity to get some more Long Course racing under our belts.

LAC Awards Banquet:  June 12th 6-8pm.  The reason we’re having this Banquet so early in the summer is because we want to recognize the achievements of the kids and also elect new board members while there is still time to get familiar with the job before their real term begins.

Our LAC Board of Tom Hayes, Mark Rosenberg, Yayoi daCosta, and Tina Rocha has done an amazing job this year.  Their list of accomplishments is incredible.  They have established a Rewards and Recognition Program, Organized our finances and fundraising accounting, helped to run our first meet, and help to organize and run many events with the support of a great group of volunteer parents.  As we move into this upcoming election, Mark, Yayoi, and Tina will be retiring from their positions on the board.  If you can work well with others and you would like to help our team in a very meaningful way, please consider running for one of our four elected positions on June 12th.

Here are some highlights from the groups Coach Lisa works with:

PreComp & Novice: This week has been great to see improvements in all 4 strokes.  Daiki has been a great example of straight arm fly.  Kylie P. has improved her head position in backstroke.  Ariceli and Faith have improved their breastroke kicking. And Jillian has improved her streamline on her flipturns.  It’s great to see Jacob as a leader in our set of 8x50’s freestyle, Anneliese doing consistent gutzone finishes, and Sophia B. becoming a responsible lane leader.  Upcoming events: No practice Friday 5/27 and Monday 5/31.  Orinda meet June 25-26.  The Awards Banquet June 12 is a great time for kids to be honored for their achievements and celebrate our team accomplishments.  I highly recommend all families to attend.

Juniors:  We are taking good steps towards our championships in July.  This week we had some stand out swims by Jenna, Desiree, Adrianna, and Cat hitting consistent race pace.  On Thursday we swam a 500 free for time at the end of practice; Sydney, Taylor, Allie, Alex, and Jenna all swam A times.  Upcoming events: No practice Friday 5/27 and Monday 5/31.  Orinda meet June 25-26.  The Awards Banquet June 12 is a great time for kids to be honored for their achievements and celebrate our team accomplishments.  I highly recommend all families to attend.

Here are some highlights from the groups I work with:

Novice Gold:  The training and attention to detail continues to increase in this group.  I am looking forward to summer where we will swim from 2-3 and push our level of training even higher.  It has been great to see Megan W. increase her white water kick.  Brandon S. continues to grow immensely each week in all strokes.  Collin and Gabe have been pushing each other on fly sets.  It’s good to see Franco leading his lane.  Chris is beginning to show a higher level of attention to detail and is developing a great freestyle.  Celine continues to be strong.  Katie R. has been a great demonstrator on backstroke and butterfly.  Megan H. and Sydney are doing a great job developing their underwater kick.  Paige continues to lead this group with attention to detail and determined effort.

Senior Group:  Most of the highlights are in the above NCS highlights.  This week we will reflect on lessons learned throughout the season, and move forward to our summer plan as we set new goals.  We have several people who can make an All-Star trip this summer to Western Zones or NACC (Mexico), and we will make action plans for those goals.  We will also now be competing at the National Level and we will set goals for more swimmers to reach this level in the near future.

Thank you Parents, Swimmers and Coaches for your pursuit of excellence.   Thank you for the support you give your children and the other children on our team.  Have a great week,

Coach Alex
