Madison Swimmers Shine in Summer Long Course Season!

Madison Swimmers Shine in Summer Long Course Season!

The Long Course season has drawn to a close and our MSA swimmers demonstrated the results of their resilience and hard work by posting best times across the board!  With the destruction of the Sunset Swim Club in the tornado, we were fortunate that our neighbors at HSA graciously opened up one lane for us for 2 hours per day.  Sometimes that meant getting to the Natatorium at 5:00 AM ... that's not a typo :) ... and our small Long Course squad remained flexible and maintained a "can do" attitude all summer long.  In addition to the swimming workouts, on Monday evenings we did "mini-triathlons" at various locations around town, and in place of our first "mini-triathlon" we had a work-party at the Sunset pool and cleared many tons of tree debris off of the property.

During the summer season we saw team records already dropping at the Excel Meet in early June, and had a number of additional records and numerous best times at the Auburn Meet three weeks later.  This was a prelim/final meet, and in the finals we saw especially fast swims from our athletes.  The Auburn Meet was Tatiana Messer's final meet of the summer, and she finished strong with best times and Southeastern cuts in the 100 and 200 Butterfly!

Two weeks later was the Baylor Meet, where Lillie Robinson and Chase Dowling concluded their season.  They had both posted significant drops in the Auburn meet in 100 and 200 Breaststrokes, and in the final event of the Baylor Meet they added big drops in the 50 Freestyle to their portfolio for the summer.

The following week featured the Southeastern Championships, where our participants (Mason and Mackenzie Holtcamp, Andrey Tretyakov, Jenny Schopp, Kierstin Page, Kent Fellows, and Jenny von Jouanne) assaulted their personal bests and the MSA record board in full force.  The final day of Southeasterns was a special day for our team, as it featured the following rarities:

1) an MSA Record by every swimmer!

2) MSA's first ever Olympic Trial qualifying time by Jenny von Jouanne in the 100 Back!

3) three 1st-place finishes and MSA's first High Point Southeastern trophy by Andrey Tretyakov!

Following are the new MSA Records posted by our small Long Course contingent over the course of this summer season:

Note that our success was not confined to the Long Course pools, as Natasha Messer and Meredith O'Malley have qualified for the ARPA State Championships being held at Cullman this weekend ... good luck to Meredith and Tasha!

Andrey is not quite finished either, as he has qualified to represent Southeastern Swimming at the annual Zone Championship Meet being contested in North Carolina this week!  This is the seventh year in a row that MSA has placed a swimmer onto the prestigious Zone Team.

Congratulations to MSA's Long Course Swimmers!
