DCST National Results – Day 3 Launer Wins 2nd National Title

DCST National Results – Day 3

Launer Wins 2nd National Title

DCST’s distance women had another huge day at the YMCA National Championships.  One day after becoming the second DCST swimmer to win an event at Nationals, Emily Launer became the first DCST swimmer to win two National Titles with her victory in the 800 meter Freestyle.  Launer’s time of 8:59.65 was an 8 second time improvement over her personal best and previous DCST team record.  Valerie Jones (26 second time improvement) and Caitlynn Moon (17 second time improvement) finished 7th and 12th in the event respectively.  All three DCST women were named National All-Americans.

Jones added a second individual All-American honor on the day with her 2.2 second time drop in the 200 meter Breaststroke.  Her time earned her an 11th place finish and a new DCST Team Record.  Jones, Launer and Moon teamed up with Katie Hallenbeck for an amazing 11 second time drop and a 25th place finish in the 400 meter Freestyle Relay.

Kei Ishimaru led the men’s team with his 10th place finish and All – American honors in the 100 meter Butterfly.  Kei’s time, which was .7 seconds faster than his previous best, beat the old DCST Team Record which was set way back in 1982.  Also in the 100 meter Butterfly, Daniel Hein set the DCST Team Record in the 13 – 14 year old age group which was previously held by Ishimaru.  Daniel had a one second time improvement in this event.  Hein broke another team record previously set by Ishimaru with this lead off 100 meter Freestyle split in the men’s 400 meter relay.  Hein and Ishimaru along with Grant Alef and Jack Fergus improved their seed time by over 4 seconds to finish 30th.  Alef set DCST’s 6 team record of the day with his very impressive 6 second time drop on the day in the 200 meter Freestyle.  For the meet, DCST so far has set 8 new team records.

In addition to the new team records, DCST now has had 28 career best times out of 33 swims for the first 3 days of the meet.  DCST’s other time drops not listed above on the day were:  Ryan Schultz 200 meter Breaststroke (5.4 seconds) and Grace Waller 200 meter Freestyle (0.1 seconds).  In the time trial events, Dylan Powers dropped 2.6 in his 100 meter Butterfly, Tara Gidaszewski dropped 6 seconds in her 200 meter Freestyle, and Sarah Fergus dropped 1.5 seconds in her 100 meter Freestyle.
