DCST National Results – Day 4

Alef Takes 3rd in 200 Backstroke

Grant Alef was DCST’s top placing finisher on Day 4 of the YMCA National Championships with his 3rd place finish in the Men’s 200 meter Backstroke.  Grant earned National All-American honors and new team record with his 1.4 second time improvement.   Kei Ishimaru also earned National All-American honors and a new team record with his 7th place finish in 50 meter Butterfly.  He improved his time by 0.9 seconds.  Also in the 50 meter Butterfly, Daniel Hein set the team record for boys ages 13 – 14 with his 1.2 second time drop.  Hein also set another team record in the 13 – 14 year old age group with his 200 meter Freestyle lead off split in the 800 meter Freestyle relay.  In this relay, Hein, Alef and Ishimaru teamed up with Jack Fergus to drop an amazing 18.5 seconds to finish in 24th place.

The relay of the day, however, belonged to DCST’s women.  Emily Launer, Caitlynn Moon, Grace Waller and Valerie Jones combined to earn an excellent 7th place finish.  All four girls earned National All-American honors.  This relay lowered its seed time by over 15 seconds.  Launer had an extremely busy, but productive day.  In addition to her All-American honor for the relay, she also received All-American honors in the 200 meter Backstroke and 400 meter Individual Medley events for her 8th and 15th place finishes respectively.

For the meet so far, DCST now has had 39 career best times out of a total of 48 swims.  DCST’s other time drops not listed above on the day were:  Jack Fergus 100 meter Freestyle (0.1 seconds), Katie Hallenbeck 200 meter Backstroke (over 10 seconds), Jack Fergus 100 meter Backstroke (0.7 seconds), Sharron Isola 50 meter Butterfly (0.8 seconds), and Dylan Powers 50 meter Butterfly (4.7 seconds).  In the time trial events, Sarah Fergus dropped 5.1 seconds in her 200 meter Backstroke and achieved the National Qualifying time.
