Weekly Update

Hello all LAC families.  We’ve had an awesome week at the pool.  It’s great to see so many accomplished LAC and Fireballs swimmers with us, ready to take on new challenges, and grow in new ways.

Special thanks to Anne Moufarrej who has been at the pool each day helping our interim Aquatics Administrator Anne Dekay with billing, group registration and answering parents’ questions.  Also thanks to Theresa Trump for giving her time to help with registration.  It has been a transition not having Emily at this time and we appreciate the patience of the parents while we wait for our new Aquatics Administrator Desiree to come on staff.

Here is a quote for the week:

There are always new, grander challenges to confront, and a true winner will embrace each one.

 Mia Hamm

It is especially exciting to think about the challenges we will grow into this season because we have so many swimmers on the verge of breakthroughs this season.  Whether you are moving into a Junior level group for the first time, shooting for a spot on a great college team, or working on becoming more confident in all areas of life, each swimmer on our team has amazing opportunities for growth this year!

Upcoming Events:

Parents Meeting:  Monday September 12th 7-8pm upstairs in club house of LVTC.  Please make time to attend this meeting as Board Members will talk about vital issues to the running of a great team.

Meets:  We will address meets for each individual group in Coach Lisa’s and my group updates

Swim-a-thon:  LAC Swim-a-thon Saturday October 1st.  This is an extremely important event for our swim team because it provides our team for money to pay for LVTC management fees, equipment, travel, and rewards and recognition.  Please begin thinking about who can sponsor you for this great event.

Team KC Swim-a-thon:  If the swim-a-thon bug has bit you, please join Team KC at the Robert Livermore Community Center for a benefit to raise money for cancer treatment and prevention.  This takes place the day after our swim-a-thon on Sunday October 2nd.

Here is an update for the groups Coach Lisa works with:

Novice2 - Welcome to a new LAC season! What a great first week it’s been! It’s nice to see returning faces of swimmers and see some new ones.  We reviewed swim team etiquette and have established what our DAILY WARMUP will be.  This group did a great job memorizing the warmup; as well as, learning new intervals on the clock.  I’d like to cover some general information as well.  Equipment needed in this group is: swim suit, cap, goggles, and fins.  Please clearly mark your equipment and talk to your child about the responsibility of bringing their equipment TO AND FROM the pool.  Swim meets available for this group between now and December are:

œ     October 8-9, AIA C/B/A meet in Hayward. This meet is already OPEN and will be filled FAST.  Please sign up for at least 3 events each day now. If you have questions about entering, please let me know.

œ     October 22-23, LAC C/B/A meet in Livermore.  This is a LAC hosted event which requires 100% participation from parents to organize and support.  There will be many opportunities before, during, and after to start working your volunteer hours.  This will also be a great opportunity for your children to race supporting LAC!

œ     November 19-20, WCAB B/A meet in Walnut Creek.  This meet will be available for swimmers who have qualified with a B time or better.  Make sure you have opportunities to get those B times in Hayward and Livermore.

œ     These meets will take us through 2011.  If your child wishes to swim summer league these will be the ONLY USA Swim meets available for competition.  The 2012 meet schedule will be established soon for the rest of the year-round LAC swimmers.

Junior2/PreSenior - Welcome to a new LAC season! What a great first week it’s been! I’m very excited to see the potential building in these athletes.  We have had a great week of establishing the fundamentals, like: our team’s Mission Statement, our responsibilities on this team, what swimming can bring to our lives, goal teams, and a group contract.  I’d like to cover some general information as well.  Equipment needed in this group is: suit, cap, goggles, fins, buoy, Green Strokemaker paddles from the ProShop, and Finis Swimmer snorkel. Swim meets available for this group between now and December are:

œ     October 8-9, AIA C/B/A meet in Hayward. This meet is already OPEN and will be filled FAST.  Please sign up for the maximum events (7) now.

Make sure you have opportunities to get those B times in Hayward and Livermore.

œ     December 2-4, Junior Olympics (JO’s) in Morgan Hill.  This meet will be available for swimmers who have qualified with a JO time or better.  We could have a great showing from the Junior2/PreSenior group at JO’s, make sure you’re racing!

œ     These meets will take us through 2011.  If your child wishes to swim summer league these will be the ONLY USA Swim meets available for competition.  The 2012 meet schedule will be established soon for the rest of the year-round LAC swimmers.

Seniors- What a great group we have this year, with several returning members and several other new faces.  It is extremely exciting to see the potential of this group and it will be so much fun to challenge ourselves and to grow into our potential this year.  We have talked about the schedule and the training plan and will begin making goals soon.  The overlying goal for the group is to develop a positive training environment where we get out of our comfort zones and support each other in being excellent.    The equipment for this group is:  Suit, cap if hair is long, short fins, long fins, goggles, snorkel, pull buoy, paddles.  Here are the meets you are expected to attend between now and January:

·        October 22-23 Livermore Aquacowboys.  This is our home meet and will be the first meet for the Senior Group.  Waiting until late October to swim our first meet will allow us to focus on training, technique, and opening our minds to the potential of the season.

·        November 11-13 Terrapins SR T&F.  Plan on attending all three days and manage homework accordingly.  Plan on swimming trials and finals.  This meet is our best opportunity to race at a high level before Sectionals.

·        November 19-20 WCAB.  This meet is for those Senior Swimmers who do not yet have Sectional time standards.

·        December 2-4th JO’s.  This meet is for 14&un Senior Swimmers who have JO time standards.

Novice 1 and Pre-Comp Swimmers:

Thank you for your patience as we sort out group levels.  We are excited to have so many returning LAC and Fireballs swimmers in these groups.  You are the future of our programs and are learning fundamental skills which will benefit your swimming greatly in the years to come.  While meets are not mandatory in this group, anyone wishing to compete is encouraged to attend the AIA Aquatics meet (sign up now)  October 8-9, the Livermore Aquacowboys meet October 22-23 and the Walnut Creek meet November 19-20.

Thank you all members of the LAC team for the amazing support you show your kids.  Thank you kids for your enthusiasm and positive energy.  We are looking forward to a great season!
