Greetings All Aquacowboy Families. This is a short update as we head into the SRVLA swim meet weekend. We’ve had another great week of training following an awesome visit from USA Swimming Executives Bill Krumm and Tom Avicious. Thank you parents for taking time to talk with these consultants about how to make our team even better.
On the Horizon:
Talks are ongoing with RLCC and Granada High School about expanding our program to use some space at another pool. We are looking forward to growing next year and expanding our great program. This will allow us to offer more space for younger swimmers at LVTC and allow us to bring additional coaches onto our staff. We are excited about these opportunities, which will eventually result in better relays, more differentiation of levels, and more swimmers competing at the National Level and in college.
SRVLA: This weekend. Be sure to dress warmly. Be ready to warm up in the pool by 7:30 for all swimmers but 8&un, by 8:30 for 8&un. Wear LAC gear!!! Cheer Cheer Cheer. We are looking forward to some breakthrough performances as we’ve had several swimmers faster than JO pace in practice.
Bowling night: Wed Feb 1 4-5:30 pm. Be sure to let Dezi know you are planning on attending by this afternoon so she can reserve lanes. There are volunteer hours available for parents who want to help supervise, please check our website. It will be a great bonding experience for our team.
Zone 2 Champs: One of our most exciting team meets of the year. Be sure to sign up if you are not doing summer league. Please tell Dezi of your intention to swim in the meet by this afternoon 1-20, as relay entries are due next week.
Cal vs Stanford Dual meet: At Stanford, Feb 18 1-4pm. This will be a fun team event as you will witness some of the fastest swimming in the country and be able to visit one of our nations premier Universities. Be sure so carve out time in your schedule for this event!
Here are some highlights from the groups Coach Lisa works with:
Novice- This week we've done great work with our IM's, with athletes even swimming a 400 IM! Jonathan has been working on straight arms in butterfly, Faith has done well with backstroke rotation, Katie has been working on her breast kick, and Meadow has improved her freestyle kick. Upcoming events: please let Dezi know by email today if you plan on attending LAC Bowling February 1. There will be no swim practice that day. This weekend, 9&up please be at the SRVLA meet at 7:30am, 8&unders can come at 8:30am. Our next meet is Zone 2 Champs, February 4-5. Please sign up for all events that your swimmer has a B time or better, and confirm you are available for relays.
Junior2/PreSenior- We have put in some good work this week. Sofia, Rachel, and Joey had an awesome set Thursday night, challenging their teammates and stepping outside their comfort zone. Upcoming events: please let Dezi know by email today if you plan on attending LAC Bowling February 1. There will be no swim practice that day. This weekend be at SRVLA at 7:30am. If you swim both days of the meet you may have Monday afternoon off; there WILL still be practice ran on Monday. Our next meet is Zone 2 Champs, February 4-5. Please sign up for all events that your swimmer has a B time or better, and confirm you are available for relays. Lastly, one of our own LAC swimmers, Brianna, is starring in the musical, Annie. It is playing at the Bankhead Theater and I would like to go Sunday, February 29 at 2:00pm. Junior tickets are $27.50 and adult tickets are $37.50. It's always great to spend time outside the pool together, and this would be a great opportunity to see a great show.
Here are some highlights from the groups I work with:
Junior 1: We have some great leaders in our group right now including Hunter, Collin, Franco and Larissa. People are embracing hard work and a great focus on technique. The combination of these two qualities makes for great success in our sport. Special praise goes to Annelysse, Minh-yha, Kylie, and Alden who are new members to the group and are doing a great job. We are looking forward to seeing some of our swimmers participate this weekend at SRVLA. We are also looking forward to seeing some of these swimmers become summer league super stars. Keep up the good work.
Senior: Our Senior group has been doing an awesome job coming off a great performance at the Cal Invit. Highlights from the Cal Invit include lifetime bests from Nina (500fr), Haley (200IM), Alex (200 fly), Shahini (200 fly), Jenna (200IM, 200fly), Josh (200IM, 500fr), Trent (200fly), Nathan (200fly). It was great to see these swimmers cheering for each other and stepping up to swim so many races (up to 10 in one day). We are currently training very well and our speed sets have been of very high quality. Yesterday the kids did a 5000 for time. The swimmers with the highest average were Nina and Trent. We are looking forward to competing at Zone 2’s and to the beginning to the High School Season.
Thank you LAC parents, coaches, swimmers and Board of Directors for all of the great work you put into making our team great. Thanks also to LVTC for supporting the achievements of these exceptional kids! Have a great week,
