January 20, 2012
For the 4th year in a row, Desert Thunder has improved their Dual Meet of Champs ranking by one place. We have progressed from 8th to 5th over the past four years at this meet.
For the second year in a row DTAC finished the round robin dual meets at 3 and 0! Winning the dual meets contributed greatly to our overall 5th place finish. The 3rd dual meet against Sun Devil Aquatics was especially inspiring. We were predicted to fall to the Devils by 5 points, but the kids pulled out some amazing swims to seal our victory by more than 20 points.
In the finals we saw 22 of our swimmers qualify, an increase from 17 swimmers a year ago. Overall, in the finals, our team improved in their rankings. Independent of the Dual Meet victory points, Desert Thunder held 4th late into the finals until Swim Pasadena overtook us on 200 freestyle races and final relays. After the dual meet points were added in we missed 4th by only 4 points, scoring 299 points to Pasadena's 303. In years past, Pasadena has usually left us far behind in the rankings. One year ago, we held 6th, only 1 point out of 7th. This last year's progress into the 2012 Dual Meet of Champs is evident and amazing.
Congratulations to all our swimmers for great swims. After my last check, every swimmer in the meet came away with at least one personal best time. We will be sorry to lose Andrew Rangel, Ally Padilla, and Stone Stayner from the meet as they age out of the qualifying age group next year. The remaining team looks plenty strong to make an ambitious chase for 4th in 2013!
Great job Desert Thunder!
