Weekly Update

Greetings Aquacowboy Families, thanks for all of the great work you put into our team!  We have several upcoming events to look forward to as well as highlights from the San Ramon meet.

Here’s a quote for the week:  “A leader’s most powerful ally is his or her example.”  John Wooden

Here are some highlights from San Ramon:

Sofia, Paige, Collin, and Franco made new JO times!

AnneMarie dropped over 40 seconds total and had the fastest Jr/Pr Sr swim in the 100 fly

Cat got best times in 100 and 200 bk, less than 1 second from Far Westerns in each

Taber was meet champion in the 25 fly and 50 breast

Here are some upcoming events:

Bowling Feb 1st:  4:0-5:30 at Granada Bowl!  It’s gonna be great!

Senior Group will have a short practice from 2:30-3:30 before bowling

Zone 2 Champs:  We will have four relays entered based on the list given to me by Dezi.

11-12 Girls relay on Saturday will be Amanda, Tori, Megan W., and Sofia

13-14 Girls relay on Saturday will be Cat, Shahini, Jenna, Sarah

15-18 Girls relay on Saturday will be Nina, Haley, Katie, Shelby

15-18 Boys relay on Saturday will be Alex W., Nathan, Andrew, Trent

Unfortunately, we missed out on some great relays because the coaching staff did not have a commitment from several swimmers before the entry deadline.  We have to pay for the relays in advance, so we cannot sign up for the relays unless we are certain swimmers are committed to attending the meet.  We are looking forward to these relays and hope next year we can have even more!

Cal Stanford dual meet, Feb 18:  We will be heading down to Stanford to watch some of the best swimming in the world.  Make this a priority as it is sure to inspire all swimmers who attend.  1-4 pm.

President’s Day:  February 20th, Novice 2 and Junior 1 can attend practice from 10-11 am.  Junior 2/Pre Senior can attend practice from 8-10 am and Senior can attend practice from 7-10 am.

Here are some highlights from the groups Coach Lisa works with:

Novice - We have stepped up our training this week, swimming more yardage than ever! We had several swimmer complete 10x50 on 1:00 without fins, good job: Katie, SarahB., Jacob, Tyler, SarahY., and Kalee! Upcoming events: Can't wait to see everyone BOWLING next Wednesday, remember NO swim practice. Saturday, February 18 at 1pm we are watching Cal vs. Stanford meet at Stanford University, a great opportunity to see some of the countries fastest swimmers!

Junior 2/Pre Senior- This week we have been reminded to be disciplined in the small things in practice, knowing they will affect our race performances.  Celine, Nicolette, and Caroline have had great sets as leaders of the group this week. Upcoming events: Can't wait to see everyone BOWLING next Wednesday, remember NO swim practice. Saturday, February 18 at 1pm we are watching Cal vs. Stanford meet at Stanford University, a great opportunity to see some of the countries fastest swimmers!

Here are some highlights from the groups I work with:

Junior 1:  We have increased our swimming this week and the kids are responding to it really well.  We are excited to see the kids race at Zone 2’s and to attend the bowling night before hand.  We have been working on maintaining long strokes and thick whitewater kick even when tired and are balancing between conditioning and stroke technique work.  Kylie, Minh-yha and Hunter continue to improve greatly.  Franco and Larissa have been great group leaders.

Senior Group:  Last week we did our first timed 5,000 yard swim.  We have established threshold training speeds off of this and are using them to gage our efforts on aerobic sets in practice.  Our speed work training has been great and we are looking forward to a lot of excellent swims this Saturday in Santa Clara.  Nina has been impressive in pace work as has Haley, Katie, and Shelby.  Last Saturday we saw Alex W. come within 2 seconds of his best 400 IM in practice.  Alex G. has also been doing some awesome things in practice lately with several 50’s of back under 30 seconds.

Thank you all parents, coaches and swimmers for another great week on our team.  We are improving greatly and are looking forward to this upcoming series of meets!

Coach Alex
