Annual YMCA Strong Kids Campaign

Team SVY,

On February 3, 2011, the Somerset Valley YMCA kicked off its annual fundraising event, the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, at the Bridgewater Y.  Many team members attended the event to learn more about how the Strong Kids Campaign helps the local community and participated in the carnival games while enjoying tasty treats!  Kids of all ages and sizes enjoyed taking chances at sinking Coach Matt (picture attached) and Coach BG in the dunk tank.  Click here to read about the kick-off event and view photos.

During the evening, Y stories were shared with event attendees.  You may wonder … what is a Y story?  There are over a million Y stories to be told and they are very personal to those that have one.  Essentially they tell the story of how the Y has changed an individual’s life.

To give a gift is a chance to help change a life.  The current economic environment is challenging for many families in our local community.  Families are facing job losses, home foreclosures, increasing food and gas costs which make it difficult to make ends meet.  Your gift has an opportunity to change a life during these challenging economic times and create yet another Y story.  Perhaps your gift can provide the chance for a toddler to be kindergarten-ready through YMCA preschool, or provide a single-mother the sense of thankfulness and relief that she has a place to take her child when she gets a job.  Your gift may also provide current team members the opportunity to continue to swim with their friends if their families experience hard times.

In 2011, the Somerset Valley YMCA provided $450,000 in financial assistance to 608 families in our communication.  Their goal is to raise $200,000 during the 2012 campaign.  In Bridgewater, our team’s home base, we are trying to raise $26,500 of that goal.  I encourage all of you to take a moment to learn more about the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.  You can view a video or read an online brochure, stop by the Bridgewater location and speak to Tim Dry, Executive Director, or pick up a flyer the next time you are at one of the Y locations.  You too, can make a difference in the life of a child and help the YMCA reach their goal this year!

The campaign officially ends on March 20th at the Celebration & Annual Public Meeting.  All members are invited to attend this meeting to learn more about the initiatives undertook in 2011 and planned for 2012, and to celebrate the achievements of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Please consider joining me in supporting the 2012 YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and creating many more Y stories.  If you can make a donation, please click here and follow the instructions, or pick up a gift giving card at any of the Y locations.

A gift in support of the Strong Kids Campaign to our home base location is greatly appreciated.   Many of the swim programs funded through the Strong Kids Campaign occur at the Bridgewater Y, and some of our very own Team members in need have benefited from the generosity of members through this fundraising event.
