DCST Boys Take Second at IL / MO Area Championships

                The Kishwaukee YMCA / DeKalb County Swim Team (DCST) took second at the 2012 Illinois / Missouri Area Championships behind first place Edwardsville by a score of 801.5 to 757.5.  As a team, DCST had an excellent meet with 51 improved times out of a total of 71 swims for an improvement percentage of 72% compared to the District Championships.  On the day, DCST set 2 new IL / MO Area Records, 6 new team records, won 8 events, and qualified for Nationals in 2 new events.

            DCST won the 9 – 10 Boys age division led by Nolan Fergus.  Nolan won the 50 yard Backstroke, 50 yard Breaststroke, and 100 yard IM.  His time in the 100 yard IM was a new Area Meet Record and a new team record.  To cap off his perfect day, Nolan teamed up with Noah Dean, Paul Ruetten, and Carson Klein to win the 200 yard Medley Relay.  Dean also had two 4th place finishes in the 50 yard Butterfly and 50 yard Freestyle.  Garret Sims also had three swims in finals.  In individual events, he was 6th place in the 100 yard IM and 7th place in the 50 yard Backstroke.  In his relay, Sims joined Paul Ruetten, David Ruetten and Klein to grab a 7th place in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay.  Paul Ruetten finished off DCST’s swims in finals with an 8th place in the 50 yard Breaststroke.

            DCST also won the 13 – 14 Boys age division with Daniel Hein taking home four first place finishes, a new Area Meet Record, 5 team records, and a new National Qualifying time.  Hein won the 100 yard Backstroke, 100 yard Butterfly and 200 yard IM in his individual races.  While Jacob Bjork, Dylan Powers and Ty Ament joined Hein to win the 200 yard Medley Relay.  The relay, the 100 yard Butterfly and 200 yard IM swims were new team records.  His split in the relay was a new team record in the 50 yard Backstroke, as was his 50 lead off split in the Butterfly.  The 100 yard Butterfly was an Area record, and the 200 IM was his first time achieving the National Qualifying time in this event.  Powers took 2nd in the 100 yard Butterfly, and his time was also under the previous team record.  Powers continued his busy day with a 3rd and 5th place finish in the 200 yard and 500 yard Freestyle events, respectively.  Jacob Bjork had a 6th place finish in the 100 yard Breaststroke, and Ty Ament finished 7th in the 100 yard Butterfly.  Ty took home his 3rd top 8 finish when he anchored the 200 yard Freestyle Relay with teammates Carson Rose, Austin Bockman and Tyler Schultz to place 8th.

            In the Boys ages 15 – 21, DCST finished third overall.  Jack Fergus was DCST top finisher in this age group with his 2nd place in the 100 yard Backstroke.  Jack was also 6th in the 200 yard IM.  Jack lead off the 200 Medley Relay followed by Ryan Schultz, Kei Ishimaru and Ryan Lindsey to earned a 4th place finish.  Ishimaru had 3 swims in finals with his 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishes in the 200 yard IM, 100 yard Butterfly and 100 yard Freestyle events, respectively.  Josh DeDina added two 4th place finishes in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard Breaststroke.  Ryan Schultz was 7th in the 100 yard Breaststroke, and Marc Dubrick was 7th in the 500 yard Freestyle events.

            Dane Pardridge lead DCST in the Boys ages 8 and Younger division with 3 swims in finals (4th – 25 yard Backstroke, 5th – 25 yard Freestyle, and 5th – 50 yard Freestyle).  DCST finished 10th in this division.  DCST also finished 10th in the 11 – 12 year old Boys.  Cole Moon, Dylan Rasmussen, Franz Allendorfer and Tyler Hull took home an 8th place in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay in this Division.  In time trials, Kei Ishimaru, Daniel Hein, Jack Fergus and Josh DeDina qualified for Nationals in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay.
