Jessica Hardy Rebuilds Her Life
Swimmer Jessica Hardy is determined to put the 2008 Beijing Olympics behind her and move on with her life. She has been busy training in preparation for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London and is sharing tips on a new blog. After being suspended in 2008 because of doping allegations, Hardy fought to have the penalty reduced and prove that she was innocent. Now, her efforts are paying off as she prepares for London.
The 2008 Olympics
Jessica Hardy was not able to participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games because a drug test revealed clenbuterol, a stimulant, in her system. Hardy denied taking the drug but was immediately suspended and no longer eligible to compete. She was eventually able to prove that a legal supplement she had taken had been contaminated with clenbuterol and caused the positive drug test. Unfortunately, it took months for her to prove her innocence.
Hardy has admitted to battling depression after her doping scandal. Since many athletes hide their personal struggles, I think it is admirable that she has been open about her problems. Jessica Hardy has also mentioned that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and spent months feeling isolated from the sport. She deserves credit for admitting her problems, seeking help and finally overcoming them to return to swimming.
London in 2012
Jessica Hardy has been keeping fans updated on her official Twitter account. She has been posting details about her training, answering fan questions and sharing that all of her swimsuits are lucky. It is not easy for an athlete to make a comeback after a doping scandal that tarnishes a career. However, Hardy's perseverance to prove her innocence has paid off. She has been able to reduce her penalty, resume training and focus on the future.
Hardy has not participated in any official competitions in 2012. However, she is planning on competing in the Indianapolis Grand Prix. The 2012 Olympic Games are not the only positive plans in her future. Jessica Hardy has revealed that she is engaged to swimmer Dominik Meichtry who will also be competing in the Olympics.
