High School/NCS Recap, Team Update

What a Weekend of Swimming: - The High School Season ended with a bang for Orinda Aquatics Swimmers at NCS and Walk-on meets.  OA had 47 swimmers representing 9 different high schools swim at NCS.  Orinda Aquatics women helped pace their respective teams to the top 2 girls teams finishers (Winner San Ramon & runner up Carondelet).  On the boys side, OA boys helped lead their respective high schools to the top 3 spots (Campo, Miramonte & San Ramon).

Over 70 Individual swims at NCS; Sven Campbell and Steven Stumph lead OA swimmers with a hand in 6 NCS Record breaking performances.  Campbell and Stumph along with JD Ratchford and Robbie Ashby opened the meet with a newNCS record in the 200 Medley Relay.  Campbell went on the break 3 individual marks: 100 Free 44.22, 100 Back 48.16 and led off the 200 Free Relay in a record breaking 50 Free time of 20.23.  Stumph smashed his 200 IM record from last season posting a blistering 1:47.52.  In a tightly contested 100 Breast, Steven set the new NCS mark finishing in a time of 54.06 (a new Pacific Swimming record as well)

Double Finalists: Megan Bicomong 200 Free (10th) & 100 Free (8th), Talbot Jacobs 200 Free (9th) & 500 Free (4th), Clayton Young 200 Free (11th) & 500 Free (7th), Shannon Herman 200 IM (7th) & 100 Breast (10th), Annie Larsen 200 IM (8th) & 100 Fly (11th), Albert Miao 200 IM (4th) & 100 Back (4th), JD Ratchford 200 IM (8th) & 100 Back (3rd), Robbie Ashby 50 Free (2nd) & 100 Free (4th).

Of Note: In the men 100 Backstroke, Orinda Aquatics swimmers went 1-3-4. (Campbell, Ratchford & Miao)

Orinda Aquatics Finalist: Tor Jensen 100 Free (13th), Riley Kalbus 200 IM (13th), Mary Ashby 100 Free (6th), Grant Sivesand 50 Free (12th), Hannah Grubbs 100 Back (10th), Allison Stevens 100 Back (11th), Megan Freeman 100 Breast (13th), Allie Light 100 Breast (16th) and Tyler Bartis 100 Breast (15th). 

Top 5 Relays:  Helping their High Schools to top relay swims: 200 Medley Relay: Albert Miao & Gabe Ostler (4th), 200 Free Relay: Allison Stevens, Hannah Grubbs, Mary Ashby & Megan Bicomong tied for 4th with Jenna Haufler, Erin Schoenfeld & Megan Howard. In the Boys Sven Campbell, Tor Jensen, Robbie Ashby & Grant Sivesind finished 2nd.  400 Free Relay: Stevens, Grubbs, Ashby & Bicomong finished 4th while Clayton Young paced his team to a 1st place finish & Albert Miao helped his team to a 2nd place finish.

Special Individual Note:  Senior Alex Spencer-Wong of Head Royce qualified and swam in her first NCS meet, qualifying for the 100 Butterfly! Way to go Alex!

Post Coast Walk-on meet:  For the many that attended, the fast times kept coming - many OA lifetime best, short course and long course.  The results are not out yet but from information gathered, Sven Campbell unofficially broke the 17-18 Pacific 200 yard backstroke record in a time of 1:44.10.  The 400 yard Medley Relay of Albert Miao (Bk-50.16), Stumph (Brst-54.6), Ratchford (Fly-52.2) & Campbell (Fr-43.1) broke the Pacific Record by 5 seconds.

Sven Campbell achieves a new Olympic Trial cut in the 50m Free posting a time of 23.2 to add to his 100m Free & 200m Back.  Steven Stumph swims a new OT cut in the 100m breast with a time of 1:03.3 adding to his cuts in the 200 Breast & 200/400 IM.  JD Ratchford posted a new Junior National LC cut in the 100m Back posting a 59.34.  Albert Miao Lead Off back split qualifies for Junior Nationals.

This Thursday - Orinda Aquatics Team Picture - Thursday, May 24th.  Please be at the pool no later than 4:15; we would like to take the team picture promptly at 4:30.  Individual/Buddy pictures will begin at 3:30.  Envelopes will be available at the pool.  Wear you REDteam shirt for the team picture. 2012 Scholastic All-American:  Each year, USA Swimming recognizes its members who excel both in the classroom and in the pool. The Scholastic All-America Team is made up of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who have achieved the required time standard in a single event.  To be eligible for this recognition, swimmers must have completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade and must be a USA Swimming member athlete. Eligible times must be swum between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012. The application must be completed by August 15. The application for the 2011-2012 year will be available online on May 25th, 2012. The only method for application will be the online application on the USA Swimming website.  For more information, qualifying times and application, click here: [ Scholastic All-American].

Workout Schedules Updates

Senior Group - Refer to Post NCS taper schedule: Monday - none.  Tuesday, 4:00-5:30 optional. Wed 4:00-5:30 All, Thursday Team picture (swim after picture). No AM's this week.

Junior Group - Regular Spring Schedule: Mon-Tues-Thurs: 6:15-7:45.  Wed & Fri 5:45-7:30.  Saturday AM 8:15-10:00.

Regular Mon, Tues & Wed; Thursday Team picture - no workout.  Friday - Sunday @ Carson City.  Next Monday - none. 

Dryland Tuesdays: 5:45-6:15.  Wear appropriate attire/shoes.

Open Water/Enter Now! Del Valle Open Water Festival, Sunday, June 10th.  This is the best(warmest) open water swim - a great intro to open water swimming.  Orinda Aquatics will only be attending on Sunday races(8:30 am .75 mile (recommended) or the 2.5 km @ 10:00). [ Del Valle Entry info].

Available for entryOAPB SR II Trials & Finals, Soda Center, June 22-24.  Team Hosted meet; all senior group swimmers should enter.  Junior group swimmers who qualify (Matt will give a summary of events to swim).

Entry times: It is best to use your best LC time. Swimmers will no long course times should enter a long course time that comparable to your unshaven short course times. Ex.  If you are an "A" time swimmer in an event, enter a comparable "A" long course time...etc. Once you swim events LC, use your LC time.


Tiburon MIle Open Water - Now Open - If you plan on swimming the Tiberon Mile at the end of the summer, the online entry is now available (There is an entry limit & it will sell out). Let Donnie know if you sign up for the event. [Tiburon Mile Information].  


Team Attire/Equipment reminder

We do have extra latex and silicon caps available for sale at the pool.  The cost is Latex ($5) and Silicon ($12).  If you need extra caps, talk to the coaches at the pool.

Do you have the current team warm-up jacket?  Remember, all OA swimmers should have team warm-up, available at NorCal and also at least one team shirt.  Remember, swimmers that workout in caps, need to wear team caps

Training equipment -  all swimmers need the required practice equipment for their respective groups.  All necessary gear can be purchase from NorCal swim shop.
