Kamloops Classic Invitational

Huge team building success for the Hollyburn Hurricanes in Kamloops!

Our latest swim meet saw 19 swimmers travel to Kamloops this June 8 – 10th, with many great swims and fond memories to add to the swim team experience. Coach Carrie Matheson reported that she really appreciated the help and support from all the families, and how great it was to see everyone coming together as a team, both in and out of the water; parent and swimmer alike; special thanks go out to Janice Blocka and Sian Pitman who were the amazing chaperones for this team travel meet.

Many of our swimmers made it to finals, which gave the athlete another chance to swim that particular event against the top competitors. This is valuable experience, as all higher ranking meets including the Olympics are organized in this way. As I’m sure some of our swimmers learned, swimming the event for a second time in the same day can be a totally different experience!

Our 10 & Under swimmers included:  Morgan Bender, Quincy Bender, Griffin Cassidy, Jade Clement, Sidney Clement, Abbey Heard, Avery Kirstiuk, Grace Robertson, Gabe Ross-Wilson and Aidan Smith

These young Hurricanes swam extremely well, gaining valuable experience swimming in a 50m pool, dealing with the lack of familiar surroundings of being at home, performing with less sleep, different food and spending all day at the pool waiting to swim their events.

Our 11 & 12 years olds included:  Thomas Dignum, James Maycher, Natalie Reeves, Marisa Ruus, Charlotte Stanwood and      James Thornley-Hall.

Most of these swimmers were more experienced, and they showed it! Awesome swims by all, with the athletes performing between 6 – 13 swims over the course of the weekend – outstanding!

Our senior swimmers were represented by: April Barnes, Carly Kagna and Angus Robertson. These athletes had amazing best time swims, were excellent role models and companions to the younger swimmers all weekend long. Congratulations to all swimmers, parents and coaches for an amazing overall experience!

Way to go Hurricanes!
