DCST finishes 2nd in Quadrangular Meet

DCST suffered its first dual meet loss of the season by losing 458 – 429 to host Illinois Valley. DCST did beat Ottawa and Belvidere in the quadrangular meet. DCST’s record is now 8 – 1 on the season. Despite the loss, DCST did swim very well. As a team, DCST had 91 new career best individual swims (out of a possible 149 or 61%), including 4 first time district qualifying times, and 2 new swims which surpassed the area qualifying time standard.
After each meet, the coaching staff picks two swimmers, one girl and one boy, as the “Big Dogs" of the meet. Big Dogs are not only selected on their performance in the meet, but the coaches also take into consideration the swimmer’s practice attendance, work ethic, team spirit and sportsmanship. For this meet, Caroline Mackey, age 7, and Austin Bockman, age 10, were selected as Big Dogs of the meet.
DCST had 22 swimmers who achieved life-time best swims in every individual event they swam on Saturday. These swimmers were as follows: Isabella Adamski, Theresa Alef, Austin Bockman, Palmer Bubb, Preston Bubb, Michael Carlson, Natalie Carlson, Melissa Cherry, Michael Cutsinger, Alyssa Ferrigan, Casey Jepsen, Jasmine Jewison, Jensen Keck, Ryan Lindsey, Olivia Lohse, Caroline Mackey, Noah McGuire, Riley Regan, Frank Rosas, Ryan Schultz, Libby Swedberg and Mark Wanner.
DCST’s next full team meet is on Saturday, January 31 against the Leaning Tower YMCA. DCST’s team T-shirts will be handed out this day prior to our team pictures. After the meet, DCST will be having our Holiday Party at NIU’s Huskie Den.
