Was it Team USA in London? Not yet - It was SCAT at the 14 & Under Long Course State Championships!!!!
Congratulations to our state swimmers for such amazing performances this weekend at GA Tech! The fun started Wednesday evening with Nick Palmer and Jordan Watson swimming best times and Top 10 finishes in the distance freestyle events The fun and excitement continue into Thursday and Friday to our up and coming 11-12 year olds - Arion Solomon and Alyson Phinney dropping 3-4 seconds in their sprint freestyle races and placing 1st and 4th place respectively.
Friday afternoon the announcer couldn't stop shouting SCAT swimmers names as they led their heats, dropped time and qualified to come back for finals later in the evening. The excitement was palpable by a coaches standard!
Tan Dunn led the team once again with 7 1st place finishes, 1 silver and 1 bronze; Arion Solomon shocked himself and his coaches when he swam to two 1st place finishes with best times in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Alyson Phinney was well rested and proved it with a 4 second drop and a 4th place finish in the 50 free.
Tyler Burrell, Nick Palmer and Jordan Watson earned best times in the elusive 50 freestyle amid the drama of failed starts and timing systems. Nick Wukovits, Jordan, and Tyler Burrell also earned the coveted top 10 Finishes in their races. Rachel Goldblatt and Tyler Pruett did not disappoint as they also swam to best times at the state meet!
Sunday did not disappoint as Tan and Arion added three more gold medal swims! Tyler and Alyson competed one last time in the 50 free to secure their top 10 finishes.
The meet ended with Tan earning the 12 year old High Point award and secured his spot to travel with Team Georgia to the Zone Championships in Dallas, TX.
It was a fantastic end to a quick long course season packed with lots of meets. We hope our 14 & Unders enjoy a well deserved break and come back for another great season in August!
We would also like to wish Tan all the best and bid him farewell! He will be moving west to Oregon in August. We will miss his smile, his laughter, his goofiness, and his incredibly impressive swims!
