4 Team Records Fall, 3 Swimmers Finish on Podium

Through an exceptionally hot and humid weekend at Chandler High School Aquatic Center the Desert Thunder Age Groupers raced to a 13th place finish out of 29 teams in the 2012 Arizona State Age Group Championships.

Four team relay records were broken during the racing.  The 13-14 relay team of Fletcher Milloy, Jacob Garcia, Levi Siwek, and Simon Werkhoven broke three of those records.  They included the 200 and 400 Free Relay (record time beat by 2.00 and 3.76 seconrds, respectively) and 400 Medley Relay (record beat by 6.49 seconds).  The 11-12 boys team of Zach Ishmael, Gabe Rangel, Archie Spindler, and Finn Lynch broke the 200 Free Relay team record by 6 tenths of a second.  Both teams would have had more chances of breaking team relay records if not for the storm that cancelled the Saturday Finals races.

Finishing on the podium were Ellinore Duncan, Jacob Garcia, and Marina McInelly.  Ellinore finished 3rd in the 13-14 100 breast, while she claimed the state titles in the 50 and 200 breaststrokes.  Jacob took 3rd in the 13-14 50 fly, while Marina raced to 3rd in the 11-12 200 breast.

In addition to our podium finishers, Levi Siwek was the additional team member who finished in the Top 8 for his 50 back.

Individual Top 16 finishers included: Finn Lynch, Simon Werkhoven, Fletcher Milloy, Archie Spindler, Gabe Rangel, Sierra Bigelow, and Vincent Hemingway.

Great swimming, Desert Thunder!
