Six JO Champions and Third Place Team Finish at JOs!
FAST finished third in the team standings at the Junior Olympics meet last week! Overall, 91% of our swimmers turned in at least one lifetime best time. Congratulations to Jerad Kaskawal, Patricia Tedjasukmana, Ashley Beck, Hana Claesson, Daniel Gribble, Simon Lamar, Sean Lundin, Hannah Martinez, Sophia Gaitatjis, Kevin Smithmatungol, Courtney Tseng, Jeremy Cho, Jared Spuur, Maya Lee, Suhail Samidon, Sophie Barrett, Sabrina Diaz, David Karaguiozian, Michael Toyos, and Doug Johnson for turning in lifetime bests in all of their swims throughout the weekend!
Six of our swimmers returned home as Junior Olympic Champions! Congratulations to Jerad Kaskawal (15 & Over 800 Free), Isabella Kearns (15 & Over 400 IM), Evan Munaretto (13-14 400 Free), Sidney Kao (13-14 100 Fly and 13-14 100 Back), Simon Lamar (11-12 100 Back, 11-12 100 Free, 11-12 200 Free, 11-12 400 Free, and 11-12 50 Free), and Makena Ditsworth (5-10 100 Fly and 5-10 50 Fly).
The 1500 Freestyle was a fantastic event for our older swimmers. Nakul Makkad led the way chopping off nearly 75 seconds to secure a 9th place finish in the 15 & Over division with a time of 17:53.21. Ashley Beck, Kayleen Bretz, Sean Lundin, and Justin Wang each dropped about 50 seconds in the event. All four swimmers scored points for  team, finishing in 6th, 5th, 7th, and 13th, respectively. Hana Claesson and Madeline Garcia each dropped over 20 seconds and finished in 13th and 10th, respectively. Evan Munaretto took off just under 40 seconds and broke the 17:00 barrier turning in a time of 16:58.63 for 2nd place overall in the 13-14 Boys division. His swim ranked him 13th in the nation at the end of the weekend! Evan also chopped nearly 30 seconds off of his 800 Freestyle to take 3rd place overall. Teammate Jerad Kaskawal was the Junior Olympic Champion in the event turning in a time of 8:54.26, a lifetime best by over 15 seconds. Sean Lundin took off 23 seconds to take 14th place. Teammates Ashley Beck and Kayleen Bretz finished 9th and 10th, respectively, with big drops.
In addition to his victory in the 200 IM, Nakul Makkad swam an outstanding 400 IM, dropping 14 seconds and finishing in 9th place overall. The 400 distance was also a great success for our Freestylers with 18 of the 26 swimmers who raced the event turning in lifetime bests and finishing among the top 30 in their respective age groups. Evan Munaretto, Sean Lundin, and Courtney Tseng led the way each dropping almost 20 seconds. Jerad Kaskawal, Hannah Claesson, Simon Lamar, Jordyn Morris, Nate Tingen, and Doug Johnson each dropped 8 to 10 seconds. Ashley Beck, Kayleen Bretz, Madeline Garcia, Brandon Dorrego, Ava Mattis, and Kyle Cabotaje also had great drops.
The 100s of stroke were also a great success for FAST swimmers with many great races and impressive time drops. Amanda Lundstedt, Andres Frausto, Sidney Kao, Ava Mattis, Kevin Smithmatungol, Courtney Tseng, Natalyah Moala, Tyryn Empremsilapa, Lilly Mazzi, Harrison Lee, Annika Johnson, and Kyle Wong all swam lifetime bests in the 100 Fly. Travis Caballero, Sidney Kao, Simon Lamar, Diana Monobe, Brock Railey, Brandon Dorrego, Jeremy Cho, Maya Lee, Sabrina Diaz, Matthew Efseaff, Annika Johnson, and Kyle Wong all swam lifetime bests in the 100 Back. Jerad Kaskawal, Kelly Babigian, Hana Claesson, Andres Frausto, Hannah Martinez, Roseryn Empremsilapa, Kevin Smithmatungol, Kendall Wilson, Lily Olson, Paulina Uytiepo, and Doug Johnson all swam lifetime bests in the 100 Breast.
