GOAL welcomes new coach Liz Germonprez to the GOAL team! Coach Liz recently moved to Omaha with her husband Matt, and kids (and new GOAL swimmers!) Maggie and Nate. Coach Liz comes very highly recommended from the college coaching ranks in Wisconsin, and will be coaching a variety of groups in the coming year, but will spend the majority of her time coaching the Senior-1 group this Fall. Please welcome Coach Liz when you see her! Here is a letter of introduction from Coach Liz::
Dear Families and Swimmers of GOAL,
Hi Everyone! My name is Liz Germonprez and I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself to the GOAL Team Family.
I am new to Omaha this summer having just moved from Wisconsin. I have spent the past five years as an Assistant Swim Coach for the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire (UWEC), a Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division III swim team. I am a sprint/middle distance freestyle specialist, but I have had the opportunity to coach all strokes and distances over my years at UWEC. In addition I have run the dryland and weight program for our team as well. For the last three seasons I have coached ten national Qualifiers all of whom then became All-Americans at our DIII National Meet. During my last season at UWEC I was honored by the University with the Joe Merten Coach of the Year Award. This is an award given to an assistant coach who demonstrates a deep commitment to student athletes and embodies a passion for lifelong learning and love of the sport. For me to be able to bring my knowledge and love of swimming to GOAL is a tremendous opportunity (and joy!).
In addition to coaching at UWEC, I was Assistant Swim Camp Director/Coach at the university for three summers (for swimmers ages 8-18). I was a volunteer coach for the Eau Claire Aquatics Club for one season (10 and under). And lastly, I was the Head Girl’s Swim Coach at Pomona High School in Arvada, CO for two seasons (while I also taught High School English).
Before I became a coach, I was a competitive swimmer. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University. As a Division I athlete I swam 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle and 100 Fly. I was a 2-year varsity letter winner, scholarship athlete and a bronze medalist at the 1993 Southwest Conference Championships. I have continued to swim as an adult with Ohio Masters and most recently with Minnesota Masters.
I believe in coaching the individual and helping every athlete reach the top of their potential. I have a love of the sport that I can’t help but share and I’m thrilled to be a part of GOAL and to have an opportunity to work with an amazing coaching staff and a really amazing team. I look forward to meeting you on deck!
