The team is excited to annouce
that Coach Derek Finn will be the lead coach for
the new TEAL Group AND Coach Tommy Harnden will be
the lead coach the BLUE group. Coach Heather
Shooner will be assiting with the BLUE group. The
coaches look forward to starting our TENTH year! National and
Platinum start next week and all other groups will start the week
of the 10th!
Tommy has been coaching for the past six years at all different
the sport. From 2010-2012 he was an assistant for the GMVY team
and was the
interim head coach during the summer season in 2011. There he was
train six first time YMCA national swimmers. From 2007-11 Tommy
assistant coach for Fairfield High School. In 2009 he started the
Middle School swim team and has served as head coach. He has also
been a part of
the Fairfield City Piranhas summer team where he has served as
assistant coach and the head coach.
Tommy grew up in Cincinnati and began swimming at the age of 5. He
both Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA and for St. X high school. There he
was able to
swim in YMCA Nationals. Tommy went on to attend Miami University
both swam for and coached the club team. He now currently resides
Fairfield. Tommy is excited to be part of the Manta Ray

Heather began her swimming career at age 4 in Pennsylvania.
At age 7, when her family moved to West Chester, OH, Heather
continued her swimming career with both Lakota Hills and
Countryside YMCA. While at CY, she enjoyed competing at both
the Short Course and Long Course National Championships, especially
the year they won the National title. Heather also
represented Lakota High School and was a four time state qualifier
in the 500 free. She graduated from Xavier University in 1999
with a Bachelor's in Social Work.
teaching swim lessons to children of all ages and abilities at age
16. She has now taught for nearly 20 years both
privately and through the YMCA, Red Cross, and SwimAmerica
programs. Heather began her coaching career when she
accepted the head coach position for the LH Wavemakers in 2010.
Heather loves coaching her home team and the experience has
awakened a deep passion that she holds for competitive swimming.
She is ecstatic to join the Manta Ray staff as a way to
continue her growth as a coach. Heather is also very much
looking forward to sharing both her knowledge and her love of the
sport with the team.
In her spare
time, Heather enjoys cooking, road trips, music, entertaining,
reading, and volunteering in the nursery at her church. She
resides in Liberty Township with her husband Joe, and two children,
Levi (8) and Audrey (6).
