Team Communication September 10th, 2012

Congratulations Nick Vargas.  Nick Vargas has been diligently training for the Anacapa Island to Mainland Crossing since the summer season ended.  Nick successfully completed the crossing, and in the process broke the all-time record.  Leaving by boat at 4am on Sunday morning, Nick began his race just after 6am.  Starting near the Anacapa Arch, he began his grueling swim across the channel and arrived at Silverstrand Beach at 11:03am, finishing strong by running to the beach.  Nick is the only swimmer to ever break the 5 hour barrier (4 hours & 58 minutes) and in the process, broke the previous record of 5 hours and 3 minutes.  We are all proud of Nick’s vision to take on this endeavor and we owe much gratitude to his open water mentor, Jim Neitz for assisting with his training.

Congratulations Austin Takeda.  Austin Takeda was selected as a member of the 2011-2012 United States Swimming Scholastic All-America Team for achieving success both in the pool and in the classroom.  To be eligible for this recognition, swimmers must have completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade and must be a USA Swimming member athlete, achieve high grades a specifc timestandards.  Austin just finished his sophomore year and is primed for a successful junior year.  Keep up the great work and thank you for leading the way and showing others how to shine in and out of the pool.  Hopefully we have many more selections in the future who are adding to their high school resume!
