On Sunday, September 9th Orinda Aquatics swimmers participated in the annual RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim, a challenging and prestigious international open water event. Participants swam one nautical mile from Angel Island to Tiburon. This year, the water was a relatively balmy 60 degrees, slightly warmer than last year’s 58 degree water. Open water swimming expert Rick Arnason trained the OA participants with several practice swims at San Francisco Aquatic Park, where the swimmers got a chance to acclimate in the Bay. While a few of the participants were attempting their first open water swim, a number of the swimmers have competed in this and other open water events. In the non-wetsuit division, swimmers included Mary Ashby, Mitchell Carlson, Lucy Faust, Megan Giambastini, Cameron Hoyh, Megan Howard and Maddy Spiering.
