Keller Cove Open Water Success!!

It was an absolutely gorgeous day at Keller Cove last Sunday.  The sun was out, the water was flat (and relatively warm).  Conditions were about as perfect as they could get. 175 swimmers competed in the event which offered a 2 mile, 1 mile, half mile and 500 yard. Senior I swimmers Laura Spielman and Anja Hendrikse-Liu competed in the 1 mile open water swim. Coach Rick led them to victory both going 1-2 in their event, Anja took first and Laura took second. Coach Rick instructed them to do their best to stay close to or with the lead pack.  As they swam out of sight, it was clear that both were trying their best to do just that.
The Keller Cove hosts did a very good job with the event and ran safe Bay swim for kids and masters swimmers.  There was a small but nice beach for staging the race, parking was easy and the race course was well out of the shipping and boating channel and the swimmers were never too far from shore.  Thumbs up to the race sponsor which hired a large contingent of guards from the East Bay Regional Park System to monitor the race.  The race sponsers did a very professional job of monitoring swimmers.  Pre-race instructions were about the best I have ever seen.  This race will definitely be a regular event on our schedule and encourage more swimmers to try it next year.
Congrats to Anja and Laura on a great swim!!
