High School Provincials

On Friday, Nov. 16, nineteen Penticton swimmers headed down to Richmond for the BC High School Provincials.  The  Region sends down three swimmers from the results of the  Regional High School Meet held in Kelowna at the end of October.  Three schools were represented - Pen High, McNicoll and Skaha Lake Middle School.

On Friday, they swim heats of all the events and finals take place on Saturday.  We had a number of swimmers make it to the finals in either relay or individual events.

We had many best times in the preliminary swims on Friday including Riley Kascak making his first AA time in 100 Brst.  Chae Lynn Williams, representing Skaha Lake took off 5s in her 100 Fly.  Riley Wall, representing McNicoll took off 3s in his 100 Free.

Pen High had two girls relays teams make second swims in the 4x 100 Free relay.  The B team swam three seconds faster overall than their Friday time.  The A team took 5th place overall, with 4 seconds faster.  The boys team placed 7th in the same event.  Reilly Rowland went 1:01.98 in her 100 Free. Payton Nackoney placed 8th in the same race.  Reilly also came 6th in the 200 IM with a best time of 2:31.

The final girls relay was the highlight as they raced their guts out in the 4 x 50 Free relay.  There were significant best times and they lowered their Regional time by 5 seconds (that's a lot in a 200).  They ended up with a silver medal and were only 0.20s from the gold.  Considering that they are all grade 9 & 10's it bodes well for the future swims.

Overall it was a very successful weekend.  Great job everyone!
