Team Communication December 12, 2012

Farewell Coach Deidre.  I would like to thank Coach Deidre for all her hard work, enthusiasm, and great knowledge she has bestowed upon our swimmers over the past two and a half years.  Deidre has worked with the Silver Group, the Gold Group, and more recently, the Gold Girls Group.  She brought a wealth of experience in dealing with this particular age group and her dedication and passion shows as she always had great results with her swimmers.  We hope to see Deidre hanging around the pool as a parent for many years to come.  Please help us send her off in style by joining her farewell party at Santino's (4231 Telegraph Road Ventura 93003) on Friday, December 21stat 7pm.  See you there!

“Enjoy the City” – Coupon Books.  Please remember to bring your “Enjoy the City” - coupon book orders with payment on December 13, 2012 between 5-6pm. Lety Ball and/or Stacey Warmuth will be at the round-about to receive your orders. Thank you to Lety Ball for organizing this fundraiser.  With her passion and all of the help from our members, we are inching closer to our goal of buying a much needed Storage/Office structure.  Also, remember, $10 of each book sold will count toward your fundraising commitment. If anybody would like to know how to donate to Buena and receive an end of year tax deduction, please reach out to Lety Ball at letyboop10@aol.com.  Thanks for supporting Buena!

Ventura Aquatic Center - Annual Winter Closure.  The Ventura Aquatic Center will be closed for two weeks during the holiday season.  They perform much needed maintenance to keep the facility clean and operating efficiently.  Our last practice at VAC will be Friday, December 21stand we will return to our normal practice schedule on Monday, January 7th.  During this closure, we will be offering an abbreviated practice schedule for all groups at Buena High School.  The schedule will be posted on the home page of the website very soon.

Winter Age Group Championship and Sectional Championship - 2012.  Buenaventura Swim Club had an outstanding team performance at WAG’s in Vegas.  Highlights include Lindsay Clark earning her Sectional time standard in the 400 IM as well as individual wins for Niles Biolley and David Peterson. There were many best times and many of our swimmers made top 8 and were able to compete in finals.  The Sectional Meet begins tonight with the distance events.  Congratulations to Jack Luna, Nick Vargas, Chesna Biolley, Austin Takeda, Stewart Harrison, Melissa Yu, Solie Laughlin, Niles Biolley, and Brigid McNally who will represent Buena at Sectionals.  Please visit our FACEBOOK page “Buenaventura Swim Club and Ventura County Masters” to read about some of the highlights.

Swimmers in the Spotlight November/December & Armstrong Trophy Winners.  We routinely recognize swimmers who are doing an outstanding job.  Two programs at Buenaventura Swim Club are the “Swimmer in the Spotlight” program and the “Armstrong Trophy” program. The Swimmer in the Spotlight is a coach’s selection where we recognize a deserving swimmer from each group and post their picture and a brief coach write up on the website.  The Armstrong Trophy is offered to the swimmer who has the biggest cumulative drop in time (from entry time to final official time) for all events at a designated swim meet.  This is offered to Gold, Silver, and Bronze Groups and they get to take home an enormous trophy with a nameplate including their name along with all the past winners in their group.

Congratulations to David Peterson, Jacob Sponseller, Amy Maxwell, Derek Eidson, Darren Anderson, and Austin Girardot for their selection as swimmers in the spotlight for respective groups for November/December.  Please visit the home page of the website to see their picture and their coach’s write up.  Finally, congratulations to Olivia Monarres, Matthew Talmage, and Hannah Yale for swimming fast and dropping lots of time at the Conejo Simi Swim Meet on December 1-2, earning their name on our Armstrong Trophy.

The Best,

Coach Jason
