FAST Finishes Second in Small Teams Division at Sectionals with 85% Best Times!

Fourteen FAST swimmers competed in the Sectional Championships last week. They finished in second place in the Small Teams Division and turned in 85% best times overall! Day 1

All swimmers turned in lifetime bests on the first day of the meet. Lindsay Clary kicked off the Women's 1,000 Freestyle dropping 20 seconds and qualifying for Junior Nationals with a time of 10:01.91. Congratulations, Lindsey! Gwendolyn Walter dropped over 22 seconds turning in a time of 10:12.11. Kayleen Bretz cut over 10 seconds off of her best time turning in a 10:33.35. Kayleen's split at the 500 was also a best time, 5:14.18. The girls finished in 6th, 10th, and 28th places, respectively. The Men's 1,650 Freestyle was the other event contested on Day 1. Evan Munaretto and Simon Lamar represented well with tremendous time drops. Evan's time of 16:03.86 earned him 19th place in the event and ranks him 12th in the country among 14-year old boys. Congratulations, Evan! Simon was the youngest swimmer entered in the event and he finished in 28th place. His time of 16:17.15 was a 35 second drop and ranks him 4th in the country among 13-year old boys. Congratulations, Simon!

Day 2

Amanda Lundstedt kicked off Day 2 with a best time in the 200 Butterfly (2:10.21). Sidney Kao also swam a lifetime best touching in 2:00.29. Katja Claesson qualified for the Bonus Final with a lifetime best 2:22.01 in Prelims. She finished in 21st place overall. Linsday qualified for the Consolation Final of the 200 Backstroke with a lifetime best 2:04.14 and finished 15th in the evening. Sidney turned in his second lifetime best of the day with a 2:03.75 in the 200 Backstroke. Gwen and Elise Garcia both swam best times in the 100 Freestyle finishing in 53.52 and 53.64, respectively. Elise's time ranks her 20th in the country for 2012 among 12-year old girls. Congratulations, Elise! 

Day 3

Gwen and Evan turned in a lifetime bests in the 200 Freestyle with times of 1:54.15 and 1:47.14, respectively. Lindsey and Isabella Kearns both earned second swims in the 400 IM claiming the 8th and 23rd places, respectively. Lindsey's 4:21.95 was a 3 second drop and Isabella's 4:32.00 was a 8 second drop. Lindsey, Mandy Schatz, Isabella, and Gwen teamed up for the 800 Freestyle Relay in the evening. Lindsey led off with a lifetime best 1:55.45 and the girls finished in 20th place with a time of 7:46.20.


Day 4

Isabella had another great IM on Day 4 in the shorter distance turning in a lifetime best 2:10.31. Elise and Gwen both swam best times in the 50 Freestyle with times of 24.32 and 25.42, respectively. Elise's time ranks her 8th in the country for 2012 among 12-year old girls. Congratulations, Elise! The 500 Freestyles were another strong event for FAST. Lindsey earned a spot in the Final with a lifetime best 4:54.31 and took 7th place in the evening. Gwen raced in the Consolation Final after turning in a lifetime best 4:58.13 in Prelims. She finished in 13th place overall. Isabella dropped 4 seconds in the event finishing with a lifetime best 5:05.46. Mandy dropped over 9 seconds clocking a 5:05.08. Evan dropped over 7 seconds turning in a lifetime best 4:47.23. Elise, Mandy, Lindsey, and Gwen cut 3 seconds off of their seed time in the 400 Freestyle Relay finishing in 30th place with a time of 3:36.81. 

Day 5

The final day of the meet brought success in the shorter races as well as the Women's 1,650 and Men's 1,000. Lindsey swam a lifetime best 1:00.09 in the 100 Backstroke and improved on that time leading off the 400 Medley Relay in 59.93 later in the session. Katja earned a second swim in the 100 Breaststroke and finished in 24th place overall. Sidney turned in a lifetime best 55.22 in the 100 Butterfly. The 400 Medley Relay team of Lindsey, Katja, Amanda, and Gwen finished in 10th place overall with a time of 4:01.53. Gwen and Mandy had fantastic 1,650s cutting off 40 and 20 seconds, respectively. Gwen's time of 17:08.42 earned 4th place overall. Mandy's 17:29.67 earned 19th place overall. Evan and Simon swam lifetime bests in the 1,000 Freestyle clocking 9:50.41 and 9:51.48, respectively. Simon's swim ranks him 5th in the country in the 1,000 among 13-year old boys. Congratulations, Simon!
