Senior Group Performs Well at CeraVe Invitational

Last weekend thirteen Senior group swimmers traveled to the CeraVe Long Course Invitational at Rutgers University in New Jersey. The group had many great races and lifetime bests. Scoring swims (Top 24) are listed below, as well as lifetime bests. The meet was streamed live on Swimming World TV and all race videos have been archived. On Friday night the group saw Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Katie Ledecky swim the 800 Freestyle in a very exciting race. Ledecky was challenged in the last 100 meters by fellow U.S. National Team member Gillian Ryan. Competing in Lane 8 of that Final was FAST's Lindsey Clary. Lindsey turned in a lifetime best 9:12.73 cutting over 20 seconds off of her previous best time. Click here to watch the Women's 800 Freestyle Final.
Katja Claesson took 3rd place in the Consolation Final of the Women's 100 Breaststroke to claim 11th place overall. Her time of 1:16.83 was a 2.5 second drop from Prelims and just one second off of her lifetime best. Jerad Kaskawal raced in the Bonus Final of the Men's 200 Freestyle moving up two places from Prelims to take 20th overall. His time of 2:02.43 was a lifetime best. Other best times on Day 1 were swum by Jerad Kaskawal (200 IM - 2:26.92) and Isabella Kearns (100 Butterfly - 1:09.16).
Isabella Kearns set the tone on the second day with a lifetime best 5:13.41 in the Women's 400 IM. In the evening's Consolation Final she dropped two more seconds turning in a time of 5:11.73 for 14th place overall. Diego Pabalan swam in the Consolation Final of the Men's 100 Backstroke turning in a lifetime best 1:04.58 and claiming 18th place. Three FAST swimmers competed in the Finals of the 400 Freestyle -- Gwendolyn Walterýplaced 22ndýiný4:36.71, Jerad Kaskawal raced to 13th with a lifetime best 4:14.33, and Evan Munaretto claimed the 18th spot with a second-best time of 4:16.01. Other best times on Day 2 were swum by Jerad Kaskawal (400 IM - 5:12.66), Amanda Lundsedt (400 IM - 5:34.55), Justin Wang (400 IM - 5:16.54), and Evan Munaretto (100 Backstroke - 1:10.30).
The final day saw FAST swimmers score in every event. Katja Claesson led the way with a second-best time of 2:46.42 in the Women's 200 Breaststroke finishing in 13th place. Racing in his first Final of the meet, Justin Wang took 22nd in the Men's 200 Breaststroke with a lifetime best 2:40.21. Isabella Kearns continued her strong meet with two Finals races on the last night. She took 23rd in the Women's 200 Backstroke with a lifetime best 2:31.12 and won the Bonus Final of the Women's 200 Butterfly in an outstanding race and a time of 2:24.94, a lifetime best by over four seconds. Evan Munaretto and Diego Pabalan had outstanding races in the 100 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke, respectively. Evan dropped over half a second from his Prelims swim turning in a second-best time of 57.20 and surging in the last 15 meters to touch out several competititors. Diego dropped over 3 seconds from his Prelims swim turning in a lifetime best 2:21.01, taking 4th place in the Bonus Final for 20th place overall.
Earlier in the day, six swimmers raced the 1500 Freestyle. Five out of the six swimmers scored in the Top 24: Jerad Kaskawal (6th), Evan Munaretto (9th), Diego Pabalan (23rd), Gwendolyn Walter (11th), and Many Schatz (12th). Jerad achieved a Scholastic All-America Team time standard with a lifetime best 16:36.77. Congratulations, Jerad! Evan and Diego also swam lifetime bests turning in times of 16:49.24 and 17:40.72, respectively. Mandy Schatz's 18:19.56 was a lifetime best by 10.5 seconds.
