It was a full house at the Soda Center last night as the Junior Group and their parents showed up in force to listen to Steven and Ronnie talk about Steven's "journey" at Orinda Aquatics. Steven had previously been a rec swimmer when at 12 years old, his family met with numerous local year round swim clubs, ultimately choosing to join Orinda Aquatics' Junior Group. Despite 2 broken wrists and several injuries along the way culminating in double hip surgery in 2011, Steven's career has soared. His most recent success was breaking the Jr National Championship meet record in the 200 breaststroke. Ronnie spoke at length about Steven's unwavering work ethic, determination, humility and focus every day and every lap along with the balance that Steven has found between swimming, academics and social activities. They also shared the goal sheet that he and Steven have used as training guidelines over the last three years. Steven entertained with his stories, his insights, his advice (visualize) and his encouragement of the younger swimmers on the team. Thank you to the Stumph Family, the coaches and Tracy Fu for organizing the event.
