FAST Takes Second Place at Winter JO's!

FAST swimmers performed very well on all four days of Winter JO's. Forty-nine FAST competitors had an outstanding weekend turning in 83% best times overall and contributing to a Second Place team finish with 1,996 points. Six swimmers were JO Champions in 15 different individual events and eight team records were broken. FAST highlights are listed below and complete meet results can be viewed here. Individual Champions
Makena Ditsworth broke her own team record en route to a first place finish in the 5-10 Girls 100 Butterfly. Her time of 1:06.36 was an improvement of 2.78 seconds. Leah Johnson won four individual events throughout the weekend taking the 500 Freestyle (5:40.47), 1,000 Freestyle (11:40.35), 1,650 Freestyle (19:15.52), and 200 Butterfly (2:33.56) in the 11-Year Old Girls division. Leah's times were all lifetime bests and tremendous drops. Elise Garcia scored a hat-trick of victories in the 13-Year Old Girls division winning the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 200 Freestyle. Her time of 24.32 in the 50 Freestyle broke her previous team record of 24.39 from December and currently ranks 13th in the country among 13-year old girls.
 
Doug Johnson set the tone in the distance events with his win on the first day in the 12-Year Old Boys 1,000 Freestyle in a lifetime best 11:12.61. He also won the 1,650 Freestyle on the final day with another big time drop turning in a lifetime best 18:23.32. Simon Lamar and Evan Munaretto continued FAST's dominance of the 1,650 Freestyle picking up wins in the 13-Year Old Boys and 14-Year Old Boys divisions. Simon's time of 16:03.65 currently ranks first in the country is his age group! Evan's time of 16:00.51 ranks 6th nationally among 14-year old boys and set a new FAST team record! Evan also won the 100 Freestyle (48.59), 200 Freestyle (1:44.80), and 500 Freestyle (4:39.83), all in dominant fashion.

All six of these swimmers also competed in other Finals throughout the weekend. They were joined by 23 other FAST swimmers who qualified for Finals!

Ethan Keung (200 Freestyle, 50 Breaststroke), Lillianne Mazzi (100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly), and Lily Olson (50 Breaststroke) also raced in several Consolation Finals along with Tyryn Empremsilapa (50 Freestyle), Madeline Harkey (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 100 Butterfly), Jadyn Lingasin (200 Individual Medley), and Luke Martin (100 Individual Medley).
 
Relays
FAST had more relays than ever qualified to compete at Winter JO's this year, fourteen of which placed in the Top 8. The 5-10 Girls relay of Lily Olson, Madeline Harkey, Tyryn Empremsilapa, and Makena Ditsworth finished 3rd in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 4th in the 200 Medley Relay. The 11-12 Boys were very strong in all four relays contested -- 200 Freestyle Relay (5th), 400 Freestyle Relay (3rd), 200 Medley Relay (5th), and 400 Medley Relay (4th). Ethan Dickinson, Michael Toyos, Ryan Cavanagh, Doug Johnson, Garrett Dowell, Ethan Paguyo, and Terence Ma all contributed to these great finishes as members of the scoring relays. The 13-14 Girls finished 4th in the 200 Freestyle Relay (Courtney Tseng, Jordyn Morris, Kayleen Bretz, and Elise Garcia), 5th in the 400 Freestyle Relay (Courtney Tseng, Nicole Salladin, Ashley Beck, and Elise Garcia), and 5th in the 800 Freestyle Relay (Ashley Beck, Kayleen Bretz, Madeline Garcia, Elise Garcia). The 13-14 Girls 200 Medley Relay team of Courtney Tseng, Hana Claesson, Elise Garcia, Jordyn Morris was also strong finishing in 8th place. The 13-14 Boys were just on the heels of a few relay victories, but took one runner-up spot and three third place finishes. The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Sidney Kao, Simon Lamar, Brock Railey, and Evan Munaretto finished 2nd behind Mission Viejo. Sidney, Brock and Evan were joined by Andres Frausto for the 200 Freestyle Relay which took 3rd place. The medley relay team of Brock Railey, Kevin Smithmatungol, Sidney Kao, and Evan Munaretto finished 3rd place in both the 200 and 400 events.
