Junior Nationals Off To A Big Start

 
15 swimmers are participating in the 2009 NCSA Junior National Championships. With over 1,600 swimmers 18&under in attendance this meet is sure to bring some of the best talent from all over the country in. After day 2 the Clippers have put forth some remarkable swims:

Day 1 - Shane Coltharp started the team off in individual events with a blistering swim in the 1,000 freestyle. Breaking the team record by over 12 seconds and grabbing his first ever World Championship Trial Cut going a 9:17.26 placing him 14th overall.

The Girls Relays finished 17 and 58th in the 200 medley relay and the Boys finished 61st.

Day 2 - Highlights of Day 2 were very exciting as well. The Clippers had 6 swimmers qualify for finals. Krissie Brandenburg(100 free & 200 Back), Ellen Williamson(200 Back), Audrey Lawson (200 Fly), Nick Kunkel (200 Back) and Shane Coltharp (200 Back & 200 Fly). Ellen Williamson sparked the night by winning the consolation heat of the 200 back in a new team record of 2:16.76. This time would have qualified her for the Olympic trials in 2008. Other finishes at finals were:

Krissie Brandenburg - 14th 100 free
Krissie Brandenburg - 32nd 200 Back
Audrey Lawson - 14th 200 Fly
Shane Coltharp - 27th 200 Back
Nick Kunkel - 29th 200 Back


Our 800 free relays finished:

Girls A - 34th out of 88
Girls B - 79th out of 88
Boys A - 22nd out of 65

Please keep in mind that this meet is being ran as 25 yards for prelims and 50 meters for finals. They also decided to run Top 32 at finals because the meet is so deep in talent.
