The New Mark Swim Team Board is excited to announce our new Head Coach - Steve De La Piedra.
Coach Steve De La Piedra started swimming at the age of 5 on a summer team. He swam all through High School with a YMCA team in Jefferson City. After HS, he attended Truman St. Univ. on a partial swimming scholarship. At Truman he held school records in the 100 & 200 backstroke. Through his 4 years at Truman he was a 20-time All American in NCAA Div 2. After college he swam for a master’s team in Tampa, FL and started coaching boys and girls at Chamberlain High School. For the past 7 years he has been with the Park Hill School District. Starting in 2008, he took over as the head boys swimming coach at PHS. In 2010 he was named the Missouri Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association HS coach of the year.
Steve and his wife Bryna met at Truman on the swim team. They live in Smithville along with their three daughters, Mia, Megan & Ellie.
Bryna will also be joining our coaching staff. Coach Bryna De La Piedra began summer swimming at the age of 10. She grew up in Leawood KS, and attended Shawnee Mission East where she was a state champion in the 500 free. During the summers in high school, she was an assistant coach for several club teams. She attended Truman St. Univ. on a partial swimming scholarship. At Truman she held school records in the 100, 200, and 500 free. Throughout her 4 years of swimming, she was the first ever female national champion (in any sport at Truman) in the 100 free. She was a part of the first Women’s National Championship team her senior year, and amassed 28 All American honors. After college she swam for a master’s team in Tampa, FL and coached the boys and girls at Tampa Catholic High School.
