Twenty-two FAST Swimmers Compete at Inaugural "Super JO" Meet
Twenty-two 14 & Under swimmers from the Silver and Gold groups competed in last weekend's SCS Club Championships ("Super JO's") at East Los Angeles College. Twelve swimmers posted lifetime best times and thirteen swimmers finished in the Top 16 scoring points for FAST! Great job to all FAST swimmers who competed in this first-ever Club Championship. Katie Cho, Makena Ditsworth, Tyryn Empremsilapa, Ethan Keung, Jade Lingasin, and Lilly Mazzi represented FAST's 10 & Unders very well. Makena reset four of her own FAST team records in the 100-yard Freestyle (1:00.21), 200-yard Freestyle (2:09.16), 500-yard Freestyle (5:35.18), and 100-yard Butterfly (1:05.86). She was the 5-10 Girls Super JO Champion in the 100-yard Butterfly and 500-yard Freestyle. Congratulations, Makena! Lilly Mazzi joined Makena in the Finals of both the 100-yard Butterfly and 500-yard Freestyle claiming 6th and 5th place, respectively, and improving her 500 time by 17 seconds! Lilly also raced to a 3rd place finish in the 5-10 Girls 100-yard IM taking off over 3 seconds and cut off half a second in the 100-yard Freestyle. Tyryn shaved off time in the 100-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Butterfly, and 500-yard Freestyle. Ethan took off time in the 200-yard IM and 500-yard Freestyle, earning the 9th place spot in the latter event.
FAST's 11-12s were strong across the spectrum of strokes and distances with time drops and top finishes from Ethan Dickinson, Garrett Dowell, Annika Johnson, Doug Johnson, Leah Johnson, Natalyah Moala, and Ethan Paguyo. Ethan Dickinson took 8th place in both the 1,000-yard Freestyle and 1,650-yard Freestyle cutting off over 30 seconds in the 1,000. He also shaved off almost 7 seconds in the 500-yard Freestyle. Ethan was joined in the distance events by teammate Doug Johnson who improved both his 1,000 and 1,650 by 18 seconds and claimed the 4th and 2nd places, respectively. Doug also dropped nearly 3 seconds in the 400-yard IM and finished in 8th place. Other strong distance swims came from Annika Johnson who dropped 16 seconds in the 1,000 for 14th place in the Girls 11-12 division. Leah Johnson cut off over 6 seconds to take 9th place in that event. Garrett Dowell and Ethan Paguyo represented FAST in the Finals of the Boys 11-12 50-yard Breaststroke finishing in 7th and 5th, respectively. Ethan's time was a half second drop. Ethan also dropped in his 100-yard Breaststroke cutting off nearly 2 seconds. Natalyah Moala swam a great 200-yard Butterfly taking off over 2 seconds and finishing in 13th place overall.
Ashley Beck, Elise Garcia, and Courtney Tseng all had strong swims in the 13-14 Girls division. Ashley shaved off 12 seconds in the 1,000-yard Freestyle to take 8th place. Elise and Courtney raced in the Finals of the 500-yard Freestyle on Sunday finishing in the 5th and 7th places overall. Elise dropped about 10 seconds and Courtney was right on her best time, moving up one spot in the evening's Finals from her qualifying position of 8th. Elise also raced in the Finals of the 50-yard Freestyle finishing in 7th place overall, just tenths off of her best time.
