RE: 2013 Pan American Open Water Championships
Date: March 7, 2013
From: Denny Ryther – Chair, U.A.N.A. Open Water technical Committee
The 2013 Pan American Open Water Championships to be held May 8-13, 2013 in Isla Margarita, Venezuela has been cancelled. The Open Water Technical Committee apologizes for this inconvenience. The event may be rescheduled for the Fall of this year, possibly to be held in late September or early October.
The Venezuela Federation may propose to organize the event in Isla Margarita, Venezuela. This will be confirmed at the April meeting of the UANA Executive Committee and Technical Chairs. More information will follow about the 2013 Pan American Open Water Championships as soon as it is known.
The members of the UANA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee (TOWSC) recognize that some of the Federations may need a competition to attend this spring or summer. The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA) will be hosting the Flowers Sea Swim June 15-17, 2013.
This will include a mile ocean swim (800 swimmers last year) and new this year a 5K and 10K swim. This is an opportunity for Federations to send as many competitors as they wish. The 5K and 10K will have Junior, Senior and Master Categories. This will allow full training groups to participate.
More information about the Flowers Sea Swim is available at: http://www.flowersseaswim.com/
Should any Federation choose not to participate, clubs within the Federation could attend. This is also an opportunity for your Open Water Officials to gain valuable international experience.
I will be in Cayman Islands during the weekend of the Flowers Sea Swim. Please do not hesitate to contact me if athletes from your National Federation might be interest in participating in the event. I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org If I know that your Federation may consider sending athletes, I will make sure you receive additional information as it becomes available.
The TOWSC would like to receive the name and email contact of one person from each National Federation who is willing to serve as the primary contact for Open Water Swimming. Please contact me via email so that I can continue to maintain a roster of OWS contacts throughout the Americas,
Please contact Denny Ryther at my email: email@example.com
We look forward to seeing you along the waters edge sometime in the very near future!
