FAST swimmers turned in 43 lifetime bests at last weekend's
Senior Meet. Lindsey Clary and Jerad
Kaskawal set the tone on Friday swimming in the first heat
of the Women's 800 Free and Men's 1500 Free. Lindsey's lifetime
best 9:00.05 qualifies her for this summer's Junior Nationals as
well as the 10K Open Water Nationals in May. Jerad's lifetime best
16:32.28 qualifies him for the 5K Open Water Nationals. Other
lifetime bests in the distance races on Friday were
Gwendolyn Walter (9:17.75), Mandy
Schatz (9:36.77), Simon Lamar (16:41.77),
Evan Munaretto (16:41.82), Sidney
Kao (17:32.76), and Andres Frausto
(18:04.85). All of these swims were fantastic time drops and
several moved into the National rankings for the year. Simon swam
the fastest 1500 for 13-year old boys so far this year, while
Evan's ranks third among 14-year old boys.
Fifteen more lifetime bests were achieved in Saturday's races.
Sean Kao swam 25.41 in the 50 Freestyle and
1:58.77 in the 200 Freestyle. Lindsey swam 2:27.58 in the prelims
of the 200 Butterfly and took off 4 more seconds in the evening for
a final time of 2:23.41 which was a new Sectional qualifying time.
Simon also swam a best time in the 200 Butterfly in the morning
(2:25.44) and evening (2:22.99). Elise Garcia,
Kayleen Bretz, and Mandy all swam lifetime bests
in the 200 Freestyle. Kayleen turned in a time of 2:21.61 in
prelims. Elise and Mandy both swam prelims and finals in the event
with best times of 2:16.43 and 2:13.89, respectively. Five girls
swam lifetime bests in the 400 Freestyle: Kayleen (4:49.35),
Courtney Tseng (4:46.80), Lindsey (4:24.58),
Elise (4:43.44), and Mandy (4:39.29). Lindsey, Elise, and Mandy
each earned second swims with Lindsey and Mandy improving their
times in Finals. Lindsey won the A final and Mandy won the C final.
The Men's 800 Freestyle was the last event of the day and a strong
one for FAST. Evan and Simon both swam lifetime bests of 8:41.26
and 8:48.67, respectively. Evan's time ranks first in the country
for 14-year old boys and Simon's ranks 1st in the country for
13-year old boys. Simon's time is also a new Sectional qualifying
FAST swimmers had twenty-one more lifetime bests on the final
day of the meet. Courtney dropped one second in the 100 Butterfly
(1:13.48) and earned a Finals swim. She chopped off 2 more seconds
in the evening with her time of 1:11.61. Isabella
Kearns also swam a best time in the evening with a time of
1:08.66 which earned 10th place overall. Cathryn
Salladin had a great day of 200 Breaststrokes with a
lifetime best in the morning and another 1.5 second improvement in
the B final. Her time of 2:57.59 ranks 17th in the country among
13-year old girls. Mandy, Courtney, and Elise all swam lifetime
bests in the 100 Freestyle. Mandy and Elise both competed in Finals
finishing in 16th (1:04.00) and 3rd (1:01.47), respectively.
Lindsey continued her strong meet with a lifetime best 4:56.60 in
the 400 IM for a first place finish and a new Junior National
qualifying time. Her split for the 100 Butterfly was also a
lifetime best (1:07.47). Her 400 IM currently ranks second in the
country among 17-year old girls. Roseryn
Empremsilapa also swam a lifetime best and made it back to
finals. She chopped off three more seconds in the evening for a
final time of 5:45.28 and a 16th place finish. In the shorter IM
event, Jerad and Andres both swam lifetime bests. Andres went
2:27.19 and Jerad earned a second swim with his time of 2:23.23.
Jerad dropped three more seconds in the evening with a time of
2:20.52. Lindsey and Allie Miller both swam best
times in the 200 Backstroke. Lindsey dropped over 7 seconds with
her time of 2:21.83 and her fourth event win of the weekend. Allie
swam a lifetime best 2:40.87 in the prelims. Sean had his third
best time of the weekend turning in a 4:17.16 in the 400 Freestyle,
a new Sectional qualifying time. Simon, Evan, Jerad, and Sidney
also had lifetime bests in the 400 Freestyle. Simon's time of
4:19.01 currently ranks first in the country for 13-year old boys.
Evan's swim (4:12.35) ranks third nationally among 14-year old
boys. Jerad won the B final with a time of 4:10.64 which ranks 15th
in the country for 17-year old boys. Sidney dropped four seconds
for a lifetime best 4:28.74. The Women's 1500 Freestyle was a great
event for FAST. Hana Claesson, Kayleen, Mandy, and
Gwen all swam lifetime bests. Hana and Kayleen swam earlier in the
day and finished in 14th (19:12.14) and 10th (18:31.98) overall.
Mandy and Gwen swam in the A final and took 4th and 2nd overall.
Mandy's time of 17:56.53 was a 24 second drop and a new Sectional
qualifying time. Her split at the 800 (9:29.15) was a lifetime best
by over 6 seconds and a new Sectional qualifying time. Gwen dropped
10 seconds for a final time of 17:46.63.
