March 20, 2013
We would like to give special recognition to our swimmers that recently competed at two high level meets!
The following swimmers traveled to Orlando, FL the week of March 11 to compete in the 2013 SC Junior Nationals:
Missy Beall, Johanna Goldblatt, Donna Blaum, Robbie Scott, Justin Moore and Chipper Machemehl
Congrats to Missy for swimming her way into Finals and hitting a best time in her 50 Fly! Congrats also to Johanna, Robbie and Justin for achieving best times at this meet. Justin and Donna just missed finals which was impressive in an event that had up to 45 heats of swimmers. This is a great accomplishment for their first time at Jr. Nationals.
While they were in Florida , Tyler Burrell, John Michael Hall, Alexandra Schmid and Austin Palmer traveled to Nashville, TN for the 2013 SZ Speedo Sectional competition.
Congratualtions to Tyler and John Michael for achieving best times.
These swimmers have a long season as they train for several meets throughout the year. It’s a tough balance to train hard enough and taper at the right time to swim fast enough at the state level to be able to qualify to come back and compete at the national level. The balance of tapering just enough to qualify and then taper again to swim best times at this level of competition is a true challenge.
Among this training these swimmers compete for their local high schools, attending practices for both SCAT and their high school, often attending 2-3 practices a day. We commend all of our Senior level swimmers for their commitment and discipline to juggle such demanding academic and athletic schedules.
These swimmers are impressive role models to our younger swimmers of what it means to be called a “swimmer”!
