After a drought of about four years, a Ukiah Dolphin is was on the victory stand at the Far Western Age Group Championship meet. Marcus Ramirez placed eighth in a strong field of about 40 qualifiers in the 15-16 age group 100 butterfly, with a time of 56.73 after swimming a 56.12 in the preliminary heats. In the award ceremony, medals were presented by three time Olympic medal winner Matt Grevers. Marcus followed this event with a strong time of 5:06.30 in the 500 free.

Qualifying in the 50 freestyle, Danny Selzer swam a fast time of 24.55 to improve his seeded place in his heat. It is quite an accomplishment to qualify for this meet, and the competition is quite a step up from what is available to most local athletes. It is hoped that many Dolphin swimmers will be able to step up to this level.

This year’s meet was held in the new, amazing facility in Morgan Hill . This required quite a drive for these two young athletes, but they got to compete in one of the nicest, most modern facilities anywhere. Congratulations to these hard working young men.

The Ukiah Dolphins is a year round swim team training in the pool at Ukiah High School . This week they are hosting a one-week camp at the UHS pool for new swimmers. The camp began this Monday and will through Friday.
