From the College of St. Mary's website:
Head swimming coach Ben Porter announced the signing of Colleen Bernal (Omaha, Neb. / Omaha Skutt High School) for the 2013-2014 school year.
Bernal was a four year letter winner in swimming at Omaha Skutt High School. During her high school career with the Skyhawks, Bernal was a three-time River Cities Conference Academic All-Conference Award winner and a recipient of the Nebraska Sports Athletic Association Academic All-State Award. She holds the Skutt High School record in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 400 freestyle relay. She also was a four-time state qualifier.
"CSM was my college choice because it was close to home," commented Bernal. "Also the ability to swim and the Physician's Assistant program made CSM a great choice for me."
Coach Porter sees Bernal swimming in the butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke events next winter for the Flames.
"Colleen has the potential to be one of the top swimmers in CSM history," commented Ben Porter. "Her swimming talent and ability to help teach her teammates efficient strokes will make her a valuable member of the CSM swim program."
College of Saint Mary athletic teams are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC).
