Zach Selfridge Wins Junior College State Championship in 200 Free

On  April 25 thru 27th, the 2013 Junior College State Championships were held at the indoor aquatics facility in East L.A.  Zach Selfridge, who was injured most of the previous two years, has been back in the water since the beginning of January.  During that time he has been consistent and tough in his training, and was graciously allowed by the West Valley College Coach Bruce Watson to continue training with the Osprey during their season.

Zach had a breakout performance, coming from behind to win the State title in  the 200 free by .08 in a time of 1:39.16.  Zach added a pair of second place finishes in the 500 free, 4:28.38 and 100 free with a 45.24. His excellent performance was capped off by anchoring the victorious WV 400 Fr Relay, blazing from behind against Cuesta College in a 45.14 split, propelling his team to the win with a 3:03.71.  Zach was the 3rd highest point scorer amongst the men at the meet.

Zach’s 100, 200 and 500 times are Jr. College All American times.  His 200 and 500 times make him the first Osprey to qualify for USA Swimming’s Junior Nationals since Linnea Mack.  Zach, who will be 18 thru August, will now compete at the Speedo Junior National Swimming Championships in Irvine Ca, August 5th thru 9th.  He will also join Linnea Mack at the upcoming Santa Clara Grand Prix.

Congratulations Zach! Hard work, skill, guts and perseverance pay off.
