Updated: Success in Vancouver! One National Cut, Two Junior National Cuts!
Nine swimmers traveled to the Mel Zajac International meet in Vancouver, BC last weekend.  Everyone returned home with lifetime best times and two FAST team records were broken.  Lindsey Clary had a breakthrough swim in the 400 IM qualifying for her first National Championships with a lifetime best time of 4:53.16.  She will travel to Indianapolis next month to compete in this year's Summer Nationals which serves as World Championship Team Trials.  Jerad Kaskawal earned his first Junior National cut on Friday in the 800 Freestyle (8:26.23) and followed it up with an outstanding 1500 Freestyle on Sunday and a second Junior National cut (16:02.73).
The 200 Freestyle was a great event for FAST.  Jerad, Simon Lamar, Evan Munaretto, and Elise Garcia all turned in lifetime bests in the 200 Freestyle.  Evan swam 2:00.01 in the individual event and got under 2:00 leading off the Men's 800 Freestyle Relay the next day with an outstanding 1:59.21.  Elise also improved her time leading off the Women's 800 Freestyle Relay (2:12.55).  Jerad, Evan, and Simon all had strong 800 Freestyles.  Jerad set the pace for the heat turning in the top time of the morning with his first Junior National qualifying time (8:26.23).  Evan finished 6th overall in 8:42.34, right on his lifetime best.  Simon dropped two seconds for a lifetime best 8:46.50 and took 7th place.
Simon turned in the first best time of the day on Saturday with a 1:07.83 in the 100 Butterfly.  He followed it up with a 4 second drop in the 400 Freestyle turning in a lifetime best 4:15.88.  Jerad also had a great 400 Freestyle dropping half a second in the morning and 3 seconds in the evening's Consolation Final with a final time of 4:07.90 for 10th place overall.  Elise shaved off half a second in Prelims of the 50 Freestyle (27.47) and earned a second swim.  She swam 27.44 in the evening finishing in 13th place overall and reset her FAST team record of 28.09 from March.  Evan also swam a best time in the 50 Freestyle (26.66).  Sean Kao earned a second swim in the 100 Butterfly and posted a lifetime best 59.09 finishing in 20th place.  Natalie Tedjasukmana dropped over 3 seconds swimming the Butterfly leg of the Women's 400 Medley Relay (1:09.42).
Sunday was highlighted by the Men's 1500 Freestyle.  Jerad, Evan, Simon, and Sidney Kao all had big drops and finished in the top 16.  Jerad set the pace for the heat yet again turning in the top time of the morning with a Junior National qualifying time (16:02.73).  Evan dropped 14 seconds for a lifetime best 16:28.48 and 11th place overall.  Simon dropped 10 seconds for a lifetime best 16:31.91 and 13th place overall.  Simon's time was also a FAST team record surpassing Tim O'Malley's mark of 16:35.80 from 2006Sidney dropped an incredible 46 seconds for a lifetime best 16:46.77 and 16th place overall.  His split at the 800 was also a lifetime best, 8:54.42.  Earlier in the day three swimmers posted lifetime bests in the 100 Freestyle: Elise (1:00.68), Jerad (57.21), and Mandy Schatz (1:02.89).
